The Government of Canada is seeking qualified applicants for full-time and part-time member positions for the General Division of the Social Security Tribunal of Canada (SST). The application and selection process is open, transparent and merit-based.
To apply, or get more information about how to prepare your application, visit the Governor in Council Appointments website. Applications must be submitted electronically by September 18, 2020.
The SST is currently modernizing its processes to emphasize innovation and user-centred design. Members must have an interest in access to justice and will be required to write decisions in plain language and practise active adjudication. A law degree is not required.
SST members work from their own homes throughout Canada. Regional representation is important to accommodate appellants who wish to have an in-person hearing (once in-person hearings resume after the COVID-19 pandemic). Regional needs are as follows:
· For the Income Security section, the SST needs candidates in the Prairies, Northern Ontario, the Greater Toronto Area, the National Capital Region, British Columbia and New Brunswick.
· For the Employment Insurance section, the SST needs candidates in Saskatchewan, Central Alberta, British Columbia and Southern Ontario. Bilingual members are needed in Ontario and Quebec, particularly in the Quebec City area.
SST members should represent Canada’s diverse population. As such, Indigenous people, people with disabilities, and members of racialized communities are strongly encouraged to apply, regardless of where they are located in Canada.
Full-time members are appointed for terms up to five years and part-time members for up to two years.
We invite you to share this news with your colleagues and networks.
Sincerely,
Employment and Social Development Canada
