Week One
Disability Management: Tuesday, April 6
Deaf: 9:30-11:30am, Presenter: Rytch
Hard of Hearing: 1:30-3:30pm, Presenter: Max
Learn how to manage your disability (hearing loss) in the workplace. You will learn how to ‘inform’ and “educate your employers” (on the job or during the interview) about how to work with your hearing loss/deafness.
Learning for Life: Wednesday, April 7
Deaf and Hard of Hearing group: 1:30-3:30pm, Presenter: Karen / Nikki
Learn how to use the Web-based employment website. We have special guests Karen Foot and Nikki Doherty from the Learning for Life Project.
Networking: Friday, April 9
Deaf group: 9:30-11:30am, Presenter: Marco
Hard of Hearing group: 1:30-3:30pm, Presenter: Maxine
Discuss the importance of networking and how to do it.
Week Two
Workplace Expectations: Monday, April 12
Deaf group: 9:30-11:30am, Presenter: Rytch
Hard of Hearing Group: 1:30 – 3:30pm, Presenter: Marco
Discuss what to expect in the workplace. Topics include team work, job place behaviour, grooming and appearance and effective communication on the job.
Communication and Approach: Tuesday, April 13
Deaf group: 1:30-3:30pm, Presenter: Rytch
Explore strategies on how to improve communication and resolve conflict with employers/co-workers/HR people.
Communication and Approach: Wednesday, April 14
Hard of Hearing group: 1:30-3:30pm, Presenter: Maxine
Explore strategies on how to improve communication and resolve conflict with employers/co-workers/HR people.
Job Interview Skills / Role Play: Thursday, April 15 (Deaf Group)
Deaf: 9:30-11:30am and 12:30-2:30pm, Presenter: Rytch / Karen
Learn how to properly work your way through job interviews. You will be video taped and feedback will be given in the class to practice and perfect your skills. (The DVD will be destroyed after the workshop to protect confidentiality).
