Job Title:              Family Support Worker

Status:                  Temporary Part Time – Term Specific until March 31, 2018 (0.6)

Start Date:          As soon as possible

Salary:                   $21.85 – $23.69 per hour

Hours:                   0930-1730

JOB SUMMARY:

Within the context of a client and family centered care model and in accordance with established vision and values of the organization, in collaboration with the care team, provides behavior management support to children and families by developing positive skills that increase the child’s chance of success to assist them in managing/stabilizing/regulating behavior and emotions. Works collaboratively with the community to build partnerships and identify community resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Baccalaureate Degree in a recognized program in Child and Youth Care.
  • Two years recent related experience working with deaf, hard of hearing and deaf-blind populations.
  • Fluent in American Sign Language.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License.
  • Local area travel may require the use of a personal vehicle.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively using American Sign Language (ASL) with clients and their families, colleagues and other health care staff.
  • Ability to deliver services in a variety of settings such as home, school and office environments.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategies to deal with socialization and behavioural problems with children.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, parents and others.
  • Ability to work independently and to use a cooperative approach to program delivery.
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to deal with others tactfully, effectively, and respectfully.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Ability to carry out the physical demands of the job.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
