JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: Sports Access Program Coordinator (part-time)

ABOUT BC DEAF SPORTS

BC Deaf Sports is a multi-sport, non-profit organization functioning as an umbrella for deaf and hard of hearing athletes in British Columbia. Our mandate includes promoting awareness and acceptance of deaf athletes provincially and nationally. We develop interest amongst deaf athletes and supporters in competitive and recreational sports. Opportunities include sporting events to participate in, training and other services.

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION

The Sports Access Program Coordinator (SAPC) will organize and facilitates services to foster increased sport participation opportunities for deaf and hard of hearing individuals. This part-time coordinator position will develop initiatives that support:

  • Meet and understand the needs of deaf and hard of hearing participants then adapt and/or develop programs in response to those needs.
  • Increasing deaf and hard of hearing individuals’ participation in workshops, programs and clinics offered by BC Deaf Sports in partnership with other organizations and clubs as well as to encourage attendance in multi-sport events including BC Games and Legacy Performance Games.
  • Travel within BC and establishes contacts and relationships with municipalities, parents, teachers and health professionals.
