Roundtable Invitation to Members of the Deaf Community

“This is what we’ve got!” A roundtable invitation to members of the Deaf community

What does economic justice mean to you? How do you define “value”? What kinds of resources flow into, or out of, your community?

If you are interested in any of these questions, I’d love for you join me at a small Roundtable Discussion next Saturday, March 28th, from noon till 2 pm

I’m hosting this conversation on behalf of CCEC credit union, or the Community Congress for Economic Change, a small one-branch credit union on Commercial Drive that’s been around since the 70s. It was founded with a strong social justice mandate, but it wants to do more to connect and serve under-served communities and grassroots projects in Vancouver. The intention of the roundtable is to spark conversation with a small group of participants about how resources flow through your communities, and about how a credit union like CCEC could help ensure that resources go to where they are needed.

This gathering will be themed especially around the arts, disability, and accessibility in the city. I would love to have some members of Deaf community (or communities!) with us. You don’t need to come with answers, just a willingness to share some of your experiences.

Who am I? My name is Nat Marshik – I’m friendly and a little shy about my ASL skills (I’ve completed ASL Basic at VCC). But don’t worry, we will be equipped with two lovely ASL interpreters.

This discussion is not a public event, but a small conversation of less than ten people. We’ll be recording it on audio (video unconfirmed) for the benefit of CCEC’s Board of Directors.

Location: The Dance Centre, at the corner of Davie & Granville.

Accessibility: The Board Room is wheelchair accessible via elevator and there is a single-stall wheelchair accessible bathroom on the 7th floor. We ask guests to come scent-reduced – no perfumes or strong fragrances. If you have accessibility questions please email me for details.

Please RSVP, or get more details, by emailing me at natmarshik [ at ] gmail [dot] com. You can also find me on FB as Nertily Barshnik.
