“In the Great Stories you know who lives, who dies, who finds love, who doesn’t. And yet you want to know again. That is their mystery and their magic.” – Arundhati Roy, The God of Small Things

Indian Summer Festival, in association with the Vancouver Writer’s Fest, are delighted to welcome Arundhati Roy back to Vancouver for the launch of her new book.

When Arundhati Roy’s debut novel, The God of Small Things, was published in 1997, it was awarded the prestigious Booker Prize, became an international bestseller, and is now considered a classic of modern literature. Roy returns to Vancouver with her richly moving second novel, written twenty years after the first.

The Ministry of Utmost Happiness gives us a glorious cast of unforgettable characters, caught up in the tide of history, each in search of a place of safety. Its heroes, both present and departed, human as well as animal, have been broken by the world we live in, and then mended by love. And for this reason they will never surrender. Humane and sensuous, beautifully told, this extraordinary novel demonstrates on every page the miracle of Arundhati Roy’s storytelling gifts.

Preorder your copy of The Ministry of Utmost Happiness through Indigo Books or purchase one at the event.

A book signing will follow this program.
