Sunday Training Jams

SUNDAY TRAINING JAMS:

Drop-in Training Jam classes are opportunities to cross pollinate training, practices, and ideas between artists of various disciplines as well as non-artists. It is a safe space for exploration, curiosity, and to expand your artistic community. Each Sunday Training Jam is lead by a different facilitator on different practices. All Training Jams are by donation. Suggested donation is $10.00. There are only THREE Training Jams left:

April 16th, 2017 – Movement Creation and Composition
Location: Playwrights Theatre Centre (739 Gore Ave, Vancouver, BC)
Time: 4:00 – 5:30 pm

Whether you’re a dancer, a mover, a shaker, or maker – whatever your discipline may be, join this week to learn how to build movement through form. This Training Jam will offer practical tools in movement creation and composition. By working in groups, partners, and solos we will work together to demystify the fear of dance/movement composition and create with abandon. This Training Jam is accessible to all levels of movers and all disciplines

April 23rd, 2017 – Scene/You
Location: SFU Woodwards (149 W Hastings. St, Vancouver, BC)
Time: 4:00 – 5:30 pm

“You cannot create results. You can only create conditions in which something might happen.”
? Anne Bogart

This Training Jam will offer some fun tools that the facilitators of New(to)Town Collective have used ourselves and as individuals to create performances. We’ll go into the basics of being a collaborator in creating a scene, composition parameters as building blocks, and using to your advantage space, bodies, intent, and text. Allowing yourself to be an active agent in any creation process. A painter for any scene.

April 30th, 2017 – Shape of Catharsis
Location: Playwrights Theatre Centre (739 Gore Ave, Vancouver, BC)
Time: 4:00 – 5:30 pm

This workshop is a detailed investigation of the 9 emotions that humans experience. As makers of artistic performance, it is important to see how you can bring about emotional release in your audience. An understanding in how catharsis happens can bring specificity in your craft. After a series of warm-ups and preparation, we will explore the different types of qualities of emotion through sound and shape. Be prepared to work with your voice and body! This workshop is recommended for those seeking awareness and range in how they release emotion.

ASL Interpretation available, please notify us Wednesdays before 8:00 pm PST for upcoming Training Jams.
