NEW Douglas College INTR Course!

0

Hello!

Douglas College is rolling out a new, exciting course this winter, Introduction to Deafhood! This course is open to family and friends, either hearing or Deaf. The course will be taught in ASL so interpreters will be present for those not fluent.

Housing Needed

0

A Deaf Ukrainian family has arrived in Vancouver. One high school student and one elementary student will be enrolled at BCSD. They need temporary housing until they get jobs and find their own place. They must leave where they are right now on October 19th.

Is there anyone in our beloved Deaf community, interpreters, and families, that would have space for 4 wonderful humans and a very small dog (Chihuahua) temporarily until they find their new home?

Please contact GVAD’s Ukraine Welcome Support Committee at deafukrainecommittee@gvad.com if you have ideas or any leads, ASAP.

Thank you.

Invitation to the CRTC’s accessibility conversations

0

Hello,

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is currently developing its Accessibility Plan as required by the Accessible Canada Actand wants your opinion. This plan will set a roadmap to improve accessibility at the CRTC.

To ensure that our accessibility plan leads to meaningful improvements and reflects the perspectives of persons with disabilities, we are consulting Canadians on their experiences interacting with the CRTC. Whether it’s your experience participating in public hearings, browsing our website, or filing a complaint, for example, we are asking for your crucial feedback on any barriers you may have encountered and proposed initiatives to help reduce, eliminate or prevent them.

You have a lot to contribute! We want to hear from you about your accessibility:

·        experiences;

·        challenges; and

·        any barriers you may have encountered when interacting with the CRTC.

We are inviting you to participate in one of two ways:

3)      By commenting online

4)       By registering for one of the virtual roundtable events, to be held over Zoom:

·          English consultation meetings with ASL:

·        Tuesday, September 27, 2022 from 1pm to 3pm EDT

·        Wednesday, October 5,  2022 from 1pm to 3pm EDT

·         French consultation meetings with LSQ:

·        Monday, September 26, 2022 from 1pm to 3pm EDT

·        Tuesday, October 4, 2022 from 1pm to 3pm EDT

Register for one of our virtual roundtables.

CART captioning will be provided at all virtual roundtable events.
