ASL @PuSh 2016
The PuSh International Performing Arts Festival is very proud to announce this year’s selection of ASL-interpreted performances and events.
Vancouver’s mid-winter performing arts festival features acclaimed local, national and international artists and presents ground-breaking work in theatre, dance, music, and various forms of multimedia and hybrid performance. We are committed to making our festival accessible to all and are reaching out you to communicate our programming that is accessible to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing with hopes that you could spread that information amongst your community.
This year we will provide ASL-interpretation for two shows: Miss Understood by, about and with local poet Antonette Rea as well as a show visiting from Australia, Jack Charles v. The Crown. Furthermore we have curated a number of shows that are accessible without interpretation.
We are also training our volunteers in helping Deaf / HH patrons (idea’s and suggestion are welcome) and we will have ASL-interpretation for the Youth Assembly, a unique opportunity for youth interested in a career in the arts.
Please see attachment for the description of the shows and our group booking prices. If a number of people of your organization are interested, I would highly recommend taking advantage of the group booking prices. Feel free to distribute this document or display it on any noticeboards.
I would be happy to answer any questions about accessibility and help you with your bookings.
Kind regards,
Anika Vervecken

Vandana Shiva in Vernon – Sat, 27 Feb 2016 at 7:00 PM at the Schubert Centre with ASL interpreter!
OVERFLOW TICKETS HAVE OPENED UP. There are another 150 seats availablefor Sat, 27 Feb 2016 at 7:00 PM at the Schubert Centre — hear Vandana Shiva’s powerful message through live video & audio feed (still at Schubert Centre) and bring your book to meet her in person to get it signed!
A registered sign language interpreter will be signing during Vandana Shiva’s talk!
With great anticipation, a grassroots collective of non-profits, businesses, farms and individuals invite you to join the illustrious Dr. Vandana Shiva for a speaking engagement in Vernon. This will be an outstanding evening of discussion about healthy food, people and communities, both locally and within the larger global context. A loss of biodiversity and community control over the food that is grown is of critical importance. How do food and food systems flow into all other areas of life and community? What are some of the key questions we should be asking when faced with choices around growing, accessing and eating food so that we are also doing our part to meet global challenges such as climate change, hunger and poverty?
From an Okanagan perspective, issues that are particularly relevant are water conservation and protecting agricultural land from the high pressure for development in this region. Climate change is also imperative to prepare for in terms of crop viability and adapting to altered weather patterns. The recently approved GMO Arctic Apple deserves special attention within the broader context of GMO’s and how they threaten organic food production and seed sovereignty.
There will be ample time for questions from the audience and a book signing to follow — bring a copy of one of Dr. Shiva’s several publications to be signed by her!
Overflow Tickets are $15 — available on Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/vandana-shiva-in-vernon-tickets-19677249182
Much gratitude is extended to the following outstanding stewards of sustainable communities and food sovereignty whose donations have made Dr. Vandana Shiva’s visit to BC possible!
