2017 Skiing is Believing for Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
Open to any Deaf and Hard of Hearing who want to learn cross country skiing for one day.
Maximum 18 people and there are several spots left.
Deadline to register has postponed to Friday, March 3 so please register ASAP.
Cost only $35 per person including ski rental, transportation, trail tickets, coaches and interpreters.

Two Worlds invites us into the life of Laura, a 12 year-old girl daughter to two deaf parents. Whenever Laura’s parents need to go out, she becomes their guide and guardian. Caring for her parents has helped Laura develop a unique sensibility, and while she understands the responsibilities of adulthood at a young age, she also finds room for youthful carelessness in her life. Using sparse sound and subtle cinematic gestures, the film draws us into Laura’s world between worlds, where unconditional love is the family’s primary language.
Sign language being considered as third official language: documents
If enacted legislation would require federal information and services to be provided in English, French and sign language
OTTAWA – The Liberal government has been quietly looking at the possibility of adding a third official language: Sign language.
Raising signing to the level of official language would be a major recognition, given that the use of sign language in Canada was “widely discouraged and even forbidden in classrooms” in the not-too-distant past, federal officials wrote in a briefing note to Disabilities Minister Carla Qualtrough.

With over 600 Deaf and Hard of Hearing Canadians using Uber to earn flexible income, please join us on March 6th at 6pm at the Best Western Chateau Granville to learn about the earning opportunities offered to those who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing through driving with Uber. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the steps to becoming a driver-partner, how Uber is building accessible and affordable transportation designed with the Deaf and hard of hearing community in mind, and hear from Toronto driver-partner Shaf Hoque on his experiences driving with Uber as a member of the Deaf and hard of hearing community. What’s Uber?
Uber is a ridesharing app that connects you with an affordable, convenient, reliable ride at just the tap of a button. Operating in over 500 cities worldwide, driving with Uber is a great way to earn flexible income, drive when you want, and be your own boss as an independent contractor.
While not currently operating in British Columbia, Uber hopes to provide another reliable way to get around our communities and access a flexible earning opportunity.
How Uber is connecting those with hearing impairments to flexible income opportunities
Uber is committed to working with community partners to create earning opportunities for those who may otherwise be under or unemployed, and to helping Deaf and hard of hearing Canadians get around by introducing them to our new accessibility offerings. There are currently more than 600 Uber driver-partners across Canada who are utilizing the app’s features for Deaf or hard of hearing drivers.

d/Deaf Artists Campaign
Access is a human right. Currently, d/Deaf artists do not have ongoing access to creative opportunities in the Vancouver theatre community. Work is beginning to address this exclusion, but in the meantime, there are artists whose creative drive shouldn’t be denied. The Story We Be is partnering with Theatre Terrific, New(to)Town Collective, and PTC in the launch of this crowdfunding campaign; what we see as an initial step to creating meaningful access, and to building an inclusive theatre community!
