This is to inform the community that we won’t have another DWCC forum as the DWCC committee had collected enough survey to present their findings from our survey participants! Thank you for doing the survey and the GVAD will continue to work with DWCC for our access to wireless code and the texting with the 911!

ANGER MANAGEMENT

Anger is a basic emotion for all people. Anger is natural. Anger is unexpected. Anger can include frustration, being annoyed, “ticked off”, or offended. When we are angry or have conflict it can be hard to control how to react or respond to other people.

Sometimes we want to get angry back but we need to learn to control so we can respond appropriately.

This group will learn about:

–              What does anger mean?
–              How do we control anger?
–              What are the triggers of anger?
–              How can we tolerate anger?
–              Different kinds of anger e.g. thinking and acting
–              Skills to deal with anger
–              Mindfulness
–              How to reduce anger.

Pick the date! ASL Interpreted Production – “HELLO”
World famous playwright Arthur Miller and his last wife, Austrian photojournalist Inge Morath, married in 1962 and had a beautiful daughter. In 1966 they had a son who was born with Down Syndrome. They named him Daniel. Daniel never lived with his family. Instead, he was shut away in an overcrowded, understaffed institution akin to bedlam. For over forty years the general public never knew there was a Daniel Miller.

Survey Deadline Extended: 9-1-1 Experience

Please note that the deadline for the 9-1-1 Survey has been extended to:

Wednesday January 4, 2016 at 9pm PST, 12 midnight EST.

Why? The Deaf Wireless Canada Consultative Committee, and the Canadian Association of the Deaf-Association des Sourds du Canada (CAD-ASC), along with Canadian National Society of the Deaf-Blind is now facing the CRTC again in January 2017. Exact date is January 19, 2017.

The CRTC proceeding (hearing) topic is exploring the issues around Next-Generation 9-1-1 services in Canada. To read more about this proceeding, you can click this link: CRTC TNC 2016-116

Our Committee developed a new survey to find out if others are having the same issues as our Committee members and friends in the Community and we will present the results to the CRTC

Questions included cover topics such as:

Did you know that you need to register for Text with 911? (Yes or No)

What do you tend to use when you want to call 9-1-1 services? TTY? IP-Relay? Text with 9-1-1?

Are you still keeping your TTY “just in case” of emergency for 9-1-1?

Do you find the Text with 9-1-1 registration process clear or confusing?

Do you use relay services for 9-1-1 emergencies? Which ones? How often?

These questions are based also on questions that the CRTC has asked our group, and our response will be stronger if we have the numbers from survey statistics to show for our arguments/points to them that the system NEEDS TO CHANGE.

To read about our survey, you can check our website link at: Deaf Community 9-1-1 Survey
