One to One Outreach (Friendly Visiting – Outings – Recreation – Wellness Walks) – Rehab Support – Recreational Swim Program – Fridays 2:00pm to 3:00pm – Working with deaf clients that are male *American Sign Language an asset
The Rehabilitation Support – Recreational Swim Program – Volunteer plays a vital role in supporting referred Home Health clients with disabilities to maintain and/or increase their independence, life skills and community participation. Under the direction of a VCH Therapist, volunteers are paired with clients to assist them with carrying out their rehabilitation goals in a therapeutic pool setting. Referrals to the program are customized to suit the client’s health goals. Volunteers that are interested in a career in healthcare or have previous experience in rehabilitation therapies are an asset. Volunteers must be available for a minimum of six months. Referrals come from all communities within Vancouver therefore – volunteers must be open to travel within Vancouver.
This role is wonderful hands-on experience for healthcare students interested in various fields of study such as Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Language Pathology and Recreation Therapy to name a few.
