There is a play in North Vancouver and it has ASL Interpreters. It is a fundraiser to raise money for scholarships for Deaf, Deaf-Blind, hard of hearing and visually impaired students. Gord and Allison Campbell created the vision for Family Deaf Camp in 1993 and when DYT joined in, we created DYT Kids’ Camp at Hornby. Gord and Allison are retiring from Tribune Bay but Deaf Camp will live on!

We wish to inform you about our next Disabled Community Connection Network (DCCN) session. DCCN is a monthly communication and information group for people of all ages (16+) with any disability. This group is supported by the North Shore Disability Resource Centre and PeerNet BC.
The next group is October 18th from 4-6 pm. To facilitate accessible transit requirements the meeting will be held at PeerNet BC, #408-602 West Hastings, Vancouver. PeerNetBC is an accessible space, please let us know of any other accessibility requirements you might have in advance of the meeting.
This session will feature Dave Symington. Dave has had a disability (C5-6 quadriplegic) since a diving accident in 1975. He has been involved in disability advocacy, program and service development, and community integration for almost 40 years. Dave co-founded the Vancouver Adapted Music Society with Sam Sullivan some 30 years ago. He is very active in sexual health advocacy, music, sailing, and travel. Today Dave will be speaking on the topic of, “Sexual Health.” Participants will be encouraged to share their own experiences and concerns as disabled individuals about sexual health.
ASL Interpretation and light refreshments provided! The space is also wheelchair accessible. Please let us know of any accommodations and dietary needs you require.

The CAD-ASC announces Action Toolkit: Meet with your Federal Members of Parliament (MPs) because the House of Commons in Ottawa is now debating Bill C-81, the “Accessible Canada Act” (ACA).
We need you to give a strong message to the Members of Parliament for an amendment in the ACA that will recognize American Sign Language (ASL) and langue des signes québécoise (LSQ) as official languages of Deaf people in Canada.

The BC Association of Clinical Counsellors and Adler University Present:
Yoga for the Soul, Myth or Reality? Presented by Claudia Dagnino, R.C.C.
In this presentation, we will explore and review evidence supporting the incorporation of Yoga practice into counselling, and its general benefits for mental health. Major topics to be covered:
• What’s up with Yoga (wellness growing trend)
• Yoga philosophy and its overlap with therapeutic modalities (the eight limbs of Yoga)
• Yogic breathing and mental health
• Grounding through synchronizing mind and body (movement)
• Yoga’s benefits across a variety of mental health conditions (depression, anxiety, trauma, etc.)
• Yoga training for clinical counsellors
The presentation will conclude with a brief, experiential Yoga session to highlight the ability of Yoga to synchronize mind and body.

About the Presenter: Claudia holds a Psychology Degree and a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology. She is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with over 10 years of experience and has worked at Vancouver Coastal Health for the last 6 years. Since 2011, when she completed her Yoga Teacher Training, Claudia has trained in a variety of Yoga styles including Restorative, Hot Yoga and Trauma Sensitive Yoga, accumulating over 320 hours of formal teacher training. Claudia currently teaches restorative yoga and has taught other styles of yoga as well. A passionate clinical counsellor and yoga instructor/practitioner whose main approach in counselling is treating the individual as a “whole” by adding somatic work into her session. Claudia understands the importance of seeking the balance between mind and body through evidence-based innovative practices such as Yoga-Infused Therapy, helping adults to address a variety of clinical conditions such as: trauma, anxiety and depression. According to the needs of each individual, Claudia may incorporate other therapeutic modalities such as: CBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, Client-Centred Therapy, meditation, mindfulness and breathing techniques.
