CAD-ASC ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF THREE NEW DIRECTORS
CAD-ASC regretfully informs the community of the resignation of Leanne Gallant as Director at Large and Chad Wolfe as Director at Large. Both of them participated in CAD-ASC and Deaf community activities but recently they both welcomed new family members. Congratulations to them both! Stepping back from their roles at CAD-ASC will allow them more time to spend with their families. CAD-ASC thanks them for all work they have done.
Now CAD-ASC is happy to announce the appointment of three new Directors:
Mahalia Drew is from Mount Pearl, Newfoundland. Mahalia completed a college Photographic Studies program. She has had involvement in community activities and fundraising since her secondary school years and in a variety of community organizations in NFLD. Mahalia joins CAD-ASC as the new Communications Director and her goal is to make all communications between CAD-ASC and the community clear and transparent. Welcome Mahalia.
Hodan Youssouf from Montreal, Quebec. Hodan’s experience includes several years on the Board of MFSM (Maison des femmes sourdes de Montréal), where she is currently Vice-President. She is well-known as an activist for Deaf women’s rights, Hodan joins CAD-ASC as the new Director at Large and her goal is to spread awareness about Domestic Violence (DV) against women across Canada. Welcome Hodan.
Shawna Joynt is the CAD-ASC’s first National Indigenous Director (NID). The CAD-ASC board did not select the NID. It was decided by a committee of Indigenous Deaf members from across Canada, which have met several times over the past two months. Both Chad and Mahalia, along with all Indigenous communities across Canada, will continue to work with Shawna to develop policies about future NID elections and activities. Welcome Shawna.
CAD-ASC is very thrilled to welcome these three new Directors who will be significant assets to the community. We look forward to working together for a better and more progressive future. Once again, we would like to welcome our new directors and wish them the best in their adventures as Deaf community advocates. Congratulations!

I am an ASL user that will be working in the Mt Lehman Winery tasting room (in Abbotsford) on Saturday July 25th and Saturday August 1st. I work in the tasting room casually and we have added staff to those dates so I can be available for tastings specifically for the community.
We would like to extend the invitation to the Deaf community to come out and enjoy an ASL accessible wine tasting.
Tastings include 4 wines for $5. There is no fee if you purchase a bottle wine. We also have a patio available if you want to buy a bottle of wine and enjoy a glass or two overlooking the grounds. Fee free to bring your own picnic or snacks. It is first come first serve for the patio as we have limited seating due to social distancing.
