ABOUT THE JOB:
Within the context of a client-centred care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice and vision and values of the organization, works as part of a community interdisciplinary team to provide mental health counseling, support and information services to deaf, hard of hearing and deaf-blind people utilizing a health promotion model. Establishes, maintains and enhances relationships based on respect and understanding with deaf, hard of hearing and deaf blind clients; assists clients to maintain stability and wellness, and provides mental health support, intervention and referral services as required. Provides supportive counseling using American Sign Language or other communication modes preferred by the client. Collaborates, consults and builds linkages with organizations, agencies and service providers for coordination and integration of mental health plans. Aids clients’ access to services and co-facilitates group sessions. Participates in continuing education, prepares and maintains client records, maintains knowledge in mental health issues, and participates in quality improvement activities.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Baccalaureate in an Allied Health Discipline from a recognized program. Experience working with deaf, hard of hearing and/or deaf-blind individuals and their families. Valid BC Driver’s License. Travel will require the use of a personal vehicle. Experience working with Deaf, Deaf-Blind, and hard of hearing a must. Fluency in American Sign Language required.
JOB SPECIFICS:
Status: Temporary Full-Time
Start date: As Soon as Possible to March 31, 2010
Salary: $27.18 to $33.88 per hour
