We are looking for Community Connectors – personal network facilitators who connect people with one another. If you are a natural connector of people, we would like to hear from you!

Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network (PLAN) supports Community Connectors to build personal networks around people who are socially isolated. Our belief is that we are all happier, safer and more secure when surrounded by a network of people who love and care about us. This is an amazing opportunity to help people discover and nurture meaningful friendships and connections with others.

The successful candidate will work alongside an energetic, friendly, athletic young man who lives in Vancouver and is passionate about sports (particularly hockey). He is looking for a connector to help make connections with those who share the same active lifestyle, as well as is able to communicate through ASL and has a willingness to be involved in the Deaf community.

Additional information:

• the position is VERY part-time (approximately 4 to 8 hours per month), with flexible work hours (depending on your schedule and the schedule of the person you connect for)
• the starting contract wage is $22.00 per hour
• a valid driver’s license and use of a vehicle is preferred but not essential
• a current criminal record check is required
• we ask for a minimum commitment of one year
• basic computer and Internet skills are a must
• preference is given to those who have experience facilitating groups and working independently

Born on March 11,1952 and passed away on September 27, 2013

Allan was born in Mount Vernon, BC as a Hard of Hearing Aboriginal. Later, he was adopted and surrounded with love, friends and laughters. He died peacefully with his loving wife, Annette, of almost 24 years, at his hospital bedside.

A Memorial Service of Allan’s Hope and Life will be celebrated at Aldergrove, BC at the Gospel Chapel on on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 1pm. The address is 26580-29 Avenue, 2 block west of the Aldergrove High School.

AVLIC President Christie Reaume invites all Deaf Interpreters and members to attend an AVLIC Deaf Interpreter membership criteria meeting on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 5:30pm during the AVLIC 2014 conference at the Fort Garry Hotel in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

In the past, AVLIC has consulted with Deaf interpreters, members and Affiliate Chapters which recommended membership criteria for Deaf people to become Deaf Interpreter members of AVLIC. Since that time, AVLIC has been contacted by some Deaf Interpreters with feedback about the criteria. To address this and to gather even more feedback, AVLIC is hosting a meeting at the AVLIC 2014 conference. The meeting will be moderated by Nigel Howard.

All Deaf Interpreters are invited to attend; you do not have to be an AVLIC member to share your feedback on the AVLIC Deaf Interpreter membership criteria. In addition, there is no conference fee to attend this meeting.

Due to the absence of Deaf Interpreter Education Programs, Active Deaf interpreters, on the initial application year only, must submit documentation to the Administrative Manager (which will also be reviewed by the AVLIC Board). I’m fostering a sweet dog who needs a forever home. She has fear aggression and is not good with children. She needs a home that would give her positive training. She’s also deaf as well. She needs a firm and confident owner. Is there a future owner out there that would be interested in this sweetie? She’s only 2 years old and had a rough start in life where she was put in a kennel for 2 years with no human interaction and having food thrown in her kennel. She’s a reject by the breeder due to her deafness. I see so much potential in her and she will make a wonderful pet to someone who is very athletic and does positive training as well. She does not do well at home alone and has anxiety issues and does not do well in a crate due to her past. Home check would be required as well. And the previous people who rescued her would like to keep in touch with the new owners.

We are very pleased to share with you the newly released CRA Video Series: Tax Measures for Persons with Disabilities which I hope will be of interest to your organization and your clients.

This video series is intended to help individuals with a disability, or the people who support them, find the answers to some of the key questions related to tax measures that may apply to them. It is divided into ten segments, ranging from 1 to 13 minutes in length, and totals just over 1 hour. It covers many relevant topics such as the Disability Tax Credit (DTC), medical expenses, the caregiver amount, the Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP).

The video can be viewed directly on the CRA website or downloaded for offline viewing. Each video segment comes with Closed Captions which can be viewed by clicking the CC at the bottom right-hand corner of the video player. There is also a transcript available for each segment as well as a related links listing for more information.

I would like to encourage you to share any feedback you have after watching the video either by completing our online comments form.

I do have limited quantities of the video on DVD. Please let me know if a DVD copy would be beneficial to you and I can arrange for one to be sent out.
