BCDSF Summer Job

Position: Events & Office Assistant

Background: British Columbia Deaf Sports Federation (BCDSF) provides various sports related funding and programs for Deaf and Hard of Hearing athletes in British Columbia. We are looking to hire an assistant to support our events and office efforts.

Length of position: 14 weeks (Monday May 26th to Friday August 29th). May include shifts during evenings and weekends.

Job Description:

  1. Coordinatingandpromotingselectedevents
  2. Assist the Office Administrator and the board of directors with assigned duties
  3. Help develop proposals and identifying new opportunities for program expansion
  4. Help seek sponsorships and promoting awareness of BCDSF

WHAT GVAD HAS DONE DURING THE MONTH OF APRIL

CAD President Frank Folino will visit Vancouver and Vancouver Island on the first weekend of May. Check deafbc.ca for more details.

GVAD is supporting the Happy Hands Club’s field trip through the donation from a Vancouver organization. The HHC will have its tour on May 15, organized by Ronald Fee.

Check Deafbc.ca regularly for new postings of announcements and information. Sign up on the webpage to get emailed notices of new postings.

GVAD assisted the Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovations in organizing a special session for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community to present ideas to the “White Paper” on Access for People with Disabilities.

GVAD sent its two written documents to the White Paper team – making recommendations to remove barriers faced by Deaf and Deaf-Blind people.

GVAD negotiated a deal with Rogers for a better data plan. Check deafbc.ca for details.

GVAD supported the CAD Project for Deaf Girls and Young Women workshops at BCSD and future workshops in the Lower Mainland.

The GVAD is sponsoring the special event– the 36th Annual CornFest at RCCC on August 17 Sunday.

GVAD found a place for the Deaf/Blind Drop-in every Friday at the Old Navy Community Room from 11 am to 2 pm.

Deaf/Blind will have a fundraising special event at VCC on June 26. Watch for their advertisement in deafbc.ca

GVAD welcomes the Deaf Darts Club.

Watch for the advertisement for a Smartphones Workshop provided by GVAD at the Old Navy Community Room on May 28 (Wed.) from 6pm to 9pm.

The interpreter will be available until 3:00 PM to assist.

April 22, 2014 – the time has arrived!

A little something from the BCVRS committee to share our thoughts & excitement about the fantastic news that CRTC gave us yesterday!

The Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunication Commissioners (CRTC) officially announced its approval for a permanent VRS in Canada coming in Fall 2015.

It brought immense joy to the BCVRS committee and everyone else nationwide (& worldwide).

So of course the BCVRS seized the opportunity to share few words and excitement about this fantastic news by producing this short & sweet video for you!

Our heartfelt thanks to the CRTC and everyone involved in the campaign for VRS in BC & Canada.

ASL only for now, audio/captions will come later. We were just too thrilled to pieces and just wanted to get the vibes out there from our Committee to the Deaf Canada community, we will do the rest ASAP!
