CAD: Another Scam!!!

0

Update:

“Alan York” is also telling people CAD-ASC wants to hire them as shopping assistants.  It is still the same fraud!

Another fraudster is using our organization name to scam people. Please read this warning and protect yourself!

A man calling himself “Alan York” (he will probably use other fake names, too) is sending texts to people and telling them he is calling on behalf of the Canadian Association of the Deaf-Association des Sourds du Canada. He tells them he got their contact information from Kijiji. He asks them if he can send them money to buy products to give to orphanages, as the orphanages “don’t spend the money properly”. He says he is Deaf-Blind and there is no one they can call that speaks. Then he tries to get their banking information.

This is a FRAUD. We do NOT text people asking for banking information. We do NOT have anyone named Alan York involved in our organization.

If you are contacted by him, please do NOT believe anything he says. Please immediately forward the scamming text to the Canada Anti-Fraud Centre, http://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/english/reportit-howtoreportfraud.html. You may also contact the anti-fraud division of West Virginia, as that is the area code of the number the scammer is using: http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx.

ABOUT THIS CAMPAIGN

I am a Deaf artist who wants to make art more accessible to people who communicate using ASL or are learning. I want to create a team of awesome talented Deaf, hard of hearing and Deaf-blind to make cool artsy projects similar to the one above. My goal for this fundraiser is to offer a honoriam to a fabulous Deaf aboriginal film editor who I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. The fund will go towards her and I will be doing this for free. My vision for this project is to have a higher quality and better videos with the help from videographers and editors. I’ve been making these videos from the comfort of my own home for over 5 years and this is the next step that I am aiming for!
