Hi, my name is Brayden Walterhouse;
I am a college student at Vancouver Community College.
Starting in the first week of September 2017, I need a tutor who is Deaf or hearing with full of fluency of American Sign Language to help me with both Psychology 12 and Law 12 courses.
Therefore, if you would like to tutor me, you would be able to earn $35 per hour for every two hours of tutor per two days weekly. The Provincial Government would pay to you for each of your tutor period with me. The requirement of tutor would be required for three months and an half, from the early month of September to the middle month of December.
Once you let me know that you are interested in tutoring me, the colleagues working for the disability service at Vancouver Community College would talk with you detail about your tutor employment.

We wish to inform you about our next Disabled Community Connection Network (DCCN) session.

DCCN is a monthly communication and information group for people of all ages (16+) with any disability. This group is supported by the North Shore Disability Resource Centre and PeerNet BC.
Our next group is happening on August 17th at 4:00PM – 6:00PM at PeerNet BC, #408-602 West Hastings, Vancouver. We would be very appreciative if you could promote this session in your newsletters and on your social media-feeds.
The session will focus on “Overcoming Barriers to Employment and Education as a Disabled Person.” Come share your lived experiences through lively, peer facilitated discussion. This group is facilitated by and for people with disabilities.
In the future, DCCN will be creating community projects that shine light on the disabled experience based on group discussions.
Our next session will feature Karen Lai an accessibility and inclusion consultant for several different organizations municipalities, and businesses. She ensures that people with disabilities are involved in their community. She will be speaking on her own personal experiences with employment and educational barriers as a proud disabled woman.
ASL Interpretation and food is provided! The space is also wheelchair accessible. Please let us know of any accommodations and dietary needs you require.

The Fringe is very excited to get more involved with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. We are working to improve our accessibility and welcome any feedback!
We work with the Douglas College Program of Sign Language Interpretation to help interpret for our Deaf Volunteers. If you are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and would like to volunteer with us, we have positions available for you! Please click here for more information on how to sign up. Everybody Dies in December will be interpreted into ASL for patrons who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing on Thursday, September 14 at 5:10pm at Studio 1398.
Lovely Lady Lump will be interpreted into ASL for patrons who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing on Friday, September 15 at 6:45pm at Studio 1398.
If you are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and require priority seating to view any performance, please let our Front of House volunteers know. The house opens 15 minutes before show time and you will be granted priority access to the venue.
The artists have self-reported whether they consider their shows “Deaf and Hard of Hearing Friendly,” which suggests their meaning and enjoyment does not depend on sound elements. We invited the artists to provide notes about the accessibility of their show, which are included below. For full show descriptions and tickets, click the show title.
These shows are largely non-verbal and may also be appropriate for patrons with English as a second language.

The Criminal Code has enabled the use of testimonial accommodations since 2006. In 2015, the Criminal Codewas amended to further expand the availability and accessibility of testimonial accommodations to allow the witness to remain in the courtroom when the witness testifies at a preliminary inquiry or trial.
The Court Services Branch (CSB) is planning to host a community engagement outreach session with justice system staff personnel and community organizations to identify and discuss opportunities, challenges, best practices and lessons learned on testimonial accommodation for vulnerable witnesses and victims.
The main objectives of this workshop will be to:

Lunch will be provided. Participants are responsible for their own travel expenses.

Come out and have some fun at GVDBC 10 Pin Deaf Bowling League 2017-2018!
Anyone who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing is welcome. We accept teams of 3 or more bowlers and need at least 15 bowlers to run the league.
We will play 6 games on the following Saturdays:
October 7th,
October 21th,
November 4th,
December 2nd,
January 6th and
February 3rd.
We only bowl for 5 months or 24 weeks, this is shorter than most leagues in Metro Vancouver. The team will have more than one chance to make it into the final playoffs in February. February playoff date will be announced later.
The cost is $22.00 for 6 games including prizes every month and will be collected before the game starts.
Join us for a short meeting on October 7th ,2017 at 9am before our first set of games at Revs Bowling Centre (next to Holdom Skytrain Station)
League play begins Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Please be sure to call and reserve your spot now – even if you cannot attend the October 7th session. No spare, you will have to roll off or pay for it even if you miss the games.
Deaf with disability are welcome to play. They will play 3 games instead of 6 games.

Providing Resources & Independence to Youth Development (PRIYD) is hiring Integration Support Workers (ISWs) to support special needs youth aged 10-18 living in Burnaby, New Westminster, Richmond, and Vancouver.
Working one-to-one or in small groups, ISWs aim to increase independence for youth and support families.
We currently have a need for male and female workers with knowledge of American Sign Language and related skills.
As an ISW, you’ll mentor boys and girls who have been diagnosed with a developmental or similar disability, including Autism, FASD and ADHD, and those that may have experienced family trauma. You’ll be taking them into the community to build confidence and life-skills through activities such as exploring the city on public transit, buying and preparing food, playing sports and other activities which help develop a healthy lifestyle and positive relationships. This position provides excellent field experience for people interested in Grad Studies.
