We are listening

Serving patients and supporting their families is what we do. At the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), we are putting patients and their families at the centre of everything we do – and we are committing to it in policy.

We need your “voice” – your experiences (good and bad), thoughts, and suggestions to make sure that the Patient and Family Inclusivity Policy will focus on the real-life facts of patients, family members and informal caregivers. We are listening.

Please join us for the

Seeking ASL tutor

Hello,

I am a hearing individual looking for an ASL tutor. I have taken some ASL classes before, and I am looking for a kind and patient tutor to help me develop further.

I am looking for someone to meet about once a week.

Do you know anyone who might want to tutor me?

Thanks,

Queer ASL 101 Workshops Instead of Classes – Now Accepting Registrations!

Hello!

In July we are trying something different and instead of having an 101 course that is 8 weeks long – we are breaking them into 5 (3 hours) workshops. You can opt to only take the Deaf Culture workshop or a couple workshops, or do the entire run. If you have taken 101 before but feel like you could use some extra practice on a specific topic, feel free to register for the workshop that focuses on that topic. We are hoping this format might work really well for folks who found the 8 weeks format hard to commit to for whatever reasons.

Here’s what we are offering:

Deaf Culture 101:
You will learn about Deaf culture, history, community, and ASL. This workshop will be ASL – English interpreted.
July 20 or July 23 or July 30

Workshop #1: You will learn the alphabet, numbers, how to introduce yourselves and identify others on top of learning a variety of vocabulary such as colours, clothes, actions, etc.
July 6 or July 10

Workshop #2: You will learn how to ask yes/no questions and discuss likes/dislikes on top of learning a variety of vocabulary such as objects, hobbies, emotions, etc.
July 12 or July 17

Workshop #3: You will learn how to discuss language backgrounds and identifying people & giving in-depth information about them on top of learning a variety of vocabulary such as languages, food & drinks, etc.
July 18 or July 24

Workshop #4: You will learn how to discuss where we grew up & currently live and learn a variety of new vocabulary related to these two topics and do an overall review of what we have learned in our previous workshops.
July 26 or July 31
*Please keep in mind that if you plan to join our 102 course in September, you will need to complete all five workshops.

If you would like more information and to register, please fill out our registration form: http://goo.gl/forms/XyNYhTqiW53gcTCq1

Also, please do spread the word. Feel free to forward this email to anyone you think might be interested and also share our event on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/305276443255527/

Thank you so much for your support!

VOICE OVER CASTING FOR A FEMALE DEAF ROLE

ON AN ANIMATED SERIES

ROLE: Female (30 -40 years)

“General Amaya”; an intense, imposing female

ROLE Reference:

Brienne of Tarth (Game of Thrones)

Claire Underwood (House of Cards)

Ideally, looking to cast a female to do the speaking part & the signing part in this series.

This property is a fantasy series, not quite Game of Thrones, but with a similar sophistication and geared for a slightly younger audience. This series is the type of show college kids would watch.  Tonally, this show could is similar to a Marvel cinematic movie – vulnerable and funny, but not quite a slapstick.

Recording: Aiming to record 2 episodes the week of July 12th.

Union:  Auditioning union & non-union talent.

WBP Advisory Committee

Message from Kristen Pranzl:

I would like to state that we are working on creating an advisory board for the DWBP and we encourage people/their organizations to submit an application.

Dear Prospective Deaf Well-Being Program Advisory Committee Member,

I am the Program Coordinator for the Well-Being Program. We are a mental health and wellness agency that provides services to Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf-Blind individuals, their families and their communities in British Columbia. Our clients range in age from 0 to 99.

We are working on setting up an Advisory Committee for our program. We value community and stakeholder feedback and suggestions as this is vital for our program to stay on top of current trends and needs within the community.

That being said, I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to submit an application to participate on our advisory committee. We will meet three times per year at the Well Being Program. Staff will have the opportunity to showcase their work and to answer questions from participants about what we have been doing and then there will be a feedback period with the Program Coordinator.

The advisory committee will also be expected to be involved with giving feedback, identifying trends, gaps and needs within the Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Deaf-Blind community in British Columbia and potentially participate in sub-committees or working groups to help us ensure we fill these gaps or adjust our services to make sure we are providing the best service for British Columbians.

The goal is to ensure we have a cohesive understanding of our community’s diverse and changing needs and how we can provide strong services in where clients feel safe, supported and respected.

Please email me at Kristen.pranzl@vch.ca to let me know if you are intending to submit an application. Please don’t hesitate to connect with me if you have any questions or if you would like more information.

Thank you so much for your consideration,

Kristen Pranzl, Program Coordinator

What would your organization or yourself be able to offer to the WBP in terms of feedback and information from the community?

How much of a time commitment would your organization/you be able to give to us? For example, once a year for three hours; twice a year for two hours; monthly?

What issues or trends does your organization/you see within your client population?

What issues would your organization/you be able to work with the WBP on? For example: an aging Deaf community; preventive care; child and youth services?

Would you prefer to have WBP staff present their work to you or have an information package sent beforehand and the meeting focuses on questions and feedback from the information package?
