The Agency:
The Island Deaf and Hard of Hearing Centre (IDHHC) is a local non-profit agencywith the mission to promote the safety, equality and general well being of andfor all Deaf, Deaf-Blind, hard of hearing and late-deafened persons throughout Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. With offices in Victoria and Nanaimo we also provide education to hearing individuals and groups who require information/ training on hearing loss and deafness.

The Position:
Are you looking for an opportunity to join a small but dynamic team that is dedicated to empowering individuals and families to access richer lives? A key component of this job is to assist clients (with a major focus on supporting parents, children/youth and families) in developing skills in the areas of physical, social, emotional, parenting and daily life, which enables them to function more independently within their life and in the community. This position also provides consultation to service providers regarding accessibility, Deaf culture, language barriers, literacy expectations, mental health, and communication access – this can include co-facilitation of Deaf Awareness Training and facilitation of ASL training. The position is currently a .6 FTE with benefits.

Job Title: COMMUNITY OUTREACH WORKER

Job Summary: Work with and encourage the well-being of families and individuals with a range of hearing loss, age and presenting need, and promote their development utilizing a variety of client-focused approaches.

A key component of this job is to assist clients (with a major focus on supporting parents, children/youth and families) in developing skills in the areas of physical, social, emotional, parenting and daily life, which enables them to function more independently within their life and in the community.
