Karly
Birth date: 2007 Ethnocultural Background: Metis
Karly is an endearing, lovable young girl who needs a family to call her own. She is a happy child who enjoys being around people; she is currently part of an active family with three other children. She participates in a number of activities such as biking, shopping, and running. Karly also likes music, lap games, movement, trampoline, dancing, and swimming. She loves to laugh and has a good sense of humour.
Born three months premature, Karly has significant developmental delays. She has Cerebral Palsy and is blind, although has some light perception. She uses hearing aids in both ears and uses a wheel chair, standing frame, and bicycle walker to get around. Karly tries really hard to learn new skills and can control some movements with support by a caregiver. With determination, she has learned to use over 50 words – she lets you know she understands you by smiling and getting excited. A smile from Karly is a sweet reward indeed! With a multisensory approach to learning, Karly’s communication skills continue to improve.
Karly has a large number of professionals involved in monitoring and assisting with her daily functioning, learning, and development. They all love to work with her! She is actively engaged in the classroom answering questions, loves story time, tries really hard to learn new skills, and is described as a bit of a “class clown”. She continues to make great strides with the love, support and care provided to her. With a skilled and devoted permanent family, Karly has the chance to reach her full potential.
Karly is of Aboriginal decent, and currently resides in the lower mainland; however non-Aboriginal families outside of this region will be considered. Openness with a sibling is expected. Come and meet Karly!
