D-Link VP’s and Portable TTY’s

I received several D-Link videophones and portable TTYs from a friend in the United States for distribution here in B.C. Before I decide on distribution, I would like to have your ideas as to what criteria should be used as the basis of distribution. Should it be based on need, income, geographical region, or what? Should it be distributed to deaf adults or deaf people of all age or to corporations or governmental agencies? Priorities? Limited to those with the internet access?

Remember those videophones are ip-address based and do not recognize ten-digit numbers, I believe. I have not — and will not — test videophones and portable TTYs. They are better than nothing.

I am simply passing on to members of the B.C. Deaf community this opportunity to get a device.

Let me know your thoughts by emailing to me at deafwanderer@hotmail.com. At this time, do NOT send me messages to indicate you want a device. I just want ideas now. I will let you know through DeafBC or some other organizations when requests for devices may be made.

After I get your thoughts, I might set up a committee to evaluate your ideas. Anyone in the Deaf community as well as those in governmental or private agencies and corporations is welcome to send ideas to me. No deadline but the sooner, the better. Thanks.
