Island Deaf and Hard of Hearing Centre (IDHHC) is hiring for the position of:

Services Booking Coordinator

Celebrating 30 years of service, IDHHC is the only non-profit specialized social service agency
on Vancouver Island serving the needs of Deaf, DeafBlind and hard of hearing individuals,
families and the broader community.


With a team of professionals who are devoted to what we do, we hope to find a passionate
individual to join our group and assist in the growth and development of our interpreting and
captioning services. As one of the agency’s four pillars this service area requires an additional
member with exceptional communication skills to meet the growing demands across the
province. With a passion for customer service and team building you are flexible and able to

This is part-time / full-time / flexible position in our Victoria office or can be remote. Deaf,
DeafBlind, hard of hearing, LGBTQ2+ and IBPOC individuals are encouraged to apply; applications

Responsibilities:
The Services Booking Coordinator (SBC) plays a pivotal role in being first point of contact to assist
the community in accessing interpreting and captioning services. Focusing on client-centered service
delivery the SBC will ensure clients access the appropriate service to meet their needs. This position
works with the public, clients, contractors and staff so the incumbent must work well as a member
of a team; ability to communicate effectively; work in a fast-paced environment and have
exceptional multi-tasking skills and attention to detail.

Duties:
• Receives request for interpreting and captioning services (via email, text, Skype, FaceTime,
telephone, TTY)
• Ensures all appointment information is accurate and complete
• Enters the request into a database
• Research and confirm relevant information
• Sends out booking request from the database to approved contractors
• Negotiates between client, provider and contractor for best match and fit
• Confirms assignments and finalize assignment details with all parties
• Resolves booking conflicts
• Keeps electronic files up to date
• Billing and invoice processing
• Educates others on the need for interpreting/captioning services to ensure inclusive and
accessible environments

Qualifications:
• Completion of college/ vocational or technical training or equivalent combination of education,
training, and experience.
• Successful completion of an ASL/English Interpreting Training Program is an asset
• 2 – 4 years related experience in an office environment
• Administration and/or operations experience
• Proficiency in computer software, databases, Excel and Office 365
• Proficiency with tech devices (computer, iPad, phones, laptops) and virtual platforms (MS
Teams, Zoom etc.)

• Excellent English grammar and writing skills

• Capacity to learn new processes and retain information
• Applying the vision and mission of the organization to daily work in a professional and respectful
approach
• Ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations.
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, multi-tasking environment while setting revolving priorities
• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Knowledge of Deaf Culture, hearing loss and its implications is strongly desired

Additional Information:
• Deaf, DeafBlind, hard of hearing, LGBTQ2+ and IBPOC individuals are encouraged to apply

• A criminal record check for working with vulnerable populations is a condition of employment
