American Sign Language (ASL) Consultant and Deaf Role Model

Permanent part time; .6 FTE, required as soon as possible

Job Summary:
American Sign Language Consultant: Communicates effectively and clearly with staff and families when in an individual
or group ASL setting, provides ASL instruction to families and professionals with varying degrees of skills and expertise with
sign language, works cooperatively with other staff to set ASL goals for families to encourage communication with their
children, and on a regular basis evaluates progress of ASL skills in families.

Deaf Role Model: Provides a positive role model for families and their deaf and hard of hearing children. Educates families
about deafness and Deaf culture. Models effective communication strategies and promotes strong family connections.
Collaborates regularly with the Early Intervention team, participates in group programs and workshops/events.
Successful candidate will work with a team of Early Intervention professionals (teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing,
speech and language pathologists, a listening and spoken language specialist) and many support staff. Candidates should have
a strong interest in working in close partnership with parents of young children and with community professionals. Preference
will be given to applicants with experience working with young children who are deaf and/or hard-of-hearing. Training and
mentorship will be provided.

Candidates must be fluent in American Sign Language, and have both a valid BC driver’s license and First Aid certificate.
Salary: $29,396.00; plus a benefit package
