Review of Video Relay Service

Dear Madam, Sir,

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is currently reviewing Video Relay Service (VRS). The Commission would like to obtain feedback from as many Canadians as possible who use and rely on the system.

The participation of VRS users will help the Commission better understand the current issues and challenges related to this important service.

Among other things, the Commission is seeking comments on whether:

  • VRS efficiently addresses the needs of Canadians with hearing and speech disabilities;
  • there are aspects of the VRS regulatory framework or the service that require modifications or improvements; and
  • the Canadian Administrator of VRS’s governance structure, funding model and cap remain appropriate.

Canadians can send their comments by completing an online form on our website, or by mail to CRTC, Ottawa, ON K1A 0N2, or by fax at 819-994-0218, or by American Sign Language (ASL) or Langue des signes québécoise (LSQ) video by providing a working link to the video using the Commission’s online form prior to June 9, 2021.

For more information, please consult the press release, the Notice of Consultation (ASL video), or call our Consumer Support Line at 1-877-249-2782, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to noon and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Eastern Time).

We invite you to share this information with members of your community to encourage their participation.

Sincerely,

Nanao Kachi
