My name is Kyra Newton, I am a dance teacher, choreographer, and performer in Calgary. I am emailing you today because I am looking for participants for a case study that will assist me in creating pre-recorded four, 45-minute digital dance classes for people who are Deaf, hard of hearing, people over the age of 55, and folks with different disabilities.
In collaboration with local artists, I will create videos to teach people Hip-hop, Bhangra/Bollywood, African, and Flamenco dance in an accessible way. These videos will be distributed for FREE in spring 2021.
Before I am able to create these accessible pre-recorded digital dance classes I need to gain some understanding of what different people need to stay engaged with the content. To accomplish this, I am running 4 case-study dance classes in contemporary dance. As a participant, people can expect to learn a fusion of contemporary, modern, jazz, and improvisation dance. You do not need any dance experience, only a willingness to try and have fun!!
These 4 classes will have an ASL interpreter and will be live-streamed on Zoom each week. After each class, I will ask each participant to fill out a survey to share their feedback. The survey would be available online and I could also call folks if an online survey is not accessible to you.
Fine details:
When: Fridays – November 6, 13, 20, 27 from 4:45 – 5:30 PM (MDT)
Where: live-streamed on Zoom
*Free to participate*
An ASL interpreter provided by FLIC will be provided for each class.
