“Hello, I am Jonathan MacDonald, and this is my sign name. I am a director at large (DAL) through Greater Vancouver Association of the Deaf (GVAD). The purpose of this video is about the membership form. We are starting the 2019-2020 year. This means its time for members to renew their membership form, or to join our organization! The current practice is to attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM) which will take place this October. Details will be announced shortly. Stay tuned for that. When you arrive at the AGM, you fill out the form with your name and address, and how much for your membership, then go and participate in the AGM. That’s the current practice. That’s not the case now. We have moved on to a online membership form through Google Forms. It’s the same procedure in registering online for your seat at a Bingo event recently. Same idea. Now, you will notice some differences on the online Membership form compared to a hard copy of the membership form. There is more questions on the online membership form. The online membership form includes questions such as your identity, for instance LGBT, First Nations, etc, and your work status. The reason behind these questions is data. Data is needed to apply for funds through grants or programs offering financial assistance. They require statistics. Please be aware that your responses will be kept confidential. Your name associated with your responses will not be shared. Only numerical statistics to prove the need to provide workshops, conferences, and inviting people to serve you, members of our community. If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at gvadmembership@gmail.com. We are excited to share something new with you. As per current practice is to pay your membership fee at the AGM, that’s no longer the case. There is an option. You can either wait to pay for your membership fee at the AGM in October, or you can arrange to pay through interac transfer by emailing gvadtreasurer@gmail.com with the subject “Membership 2019-2020 fee” with the password “1926”. Once we receive your payment, we will look at documents when you arrive at the AGM, and you can go and skip the line. Thank you, and enjoy your day. ”
