The Western Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (WIDHH) is a provincial, multi-disciplinary, registered charitable organization serving the needs of deaf and hard of hearing individuals of all ages. We provide innovative client services and programs in several social service areas: Sign Language Interpreting; Employment Counseling; Seniors Outreach; Audiology and Communication Aids. Established in 1956, WIDHH has received numerous accolades over the years for our excellence in client services and community work.
Our Interpreting Department is current seeking a qualified candidate for the following position:

Job Summary:
Community Interpreting Services Booking Coordinator
Full-time, one-year contract January 7th, 2019 to January 31st, 2020

The Community Interpreting Services (CIS) is a program of the Interpreting Department at WIDHH. We are looking for an energetic, organized person with excellent telephone and computer skills with knowledge of the field of Sign Language Interpreting.

Work Performed:

– Assists with management of online database/scheduling/invoicing of regular and on-call interpreting bookings
– Reception duties, including answering requests via email, text, Skype, FaceTime, Glide, voice phone, TTY, and fax
– Assists with drop in clients for English-ASL translation of documents and completion of forms
– Supports clients on use of video relay services and other related technology training
– Develops and maintains relationships with clients
– Provides coverage for Medical Interpreting Services dispatcher for emergencies or on-call appts
– Provides after hours dispatch services when required
Qualifications:
– Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL)
– Minimum five years client service experience with Deaf, Deaf-Blind and/or Hard of Hearing public preferred
-In-depth sensitivity and knowledge about Deaf culture, Deaf-Blind needs and the communication needs of Hard of Hearing individuals
-Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
– Ability to communicate effectively with wide range of individuals, eg. clients, interpreters, agency staff, service providers, law enforcement, health care professionals, etc.
-Advanced computer skills; organized with excellent attention to detail
-Presents professionally and is respectful of confidentiality requirements of position
-Responsible and positive work attitude
