Summer Job with GVAD ( colleges or universities students)

JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Program – Event Coordinator

Greater Vancouver Association of the Deaf (GVAD) is the oldest advocacy organization for people with disabilities in British Columbia.  GVAD acts as a consumer-advocate group on behalf of the Deaf Community.  

 

POSITION LENGTH

30 hours a week for up to 10 weeks starting Tuesday, July 3, 2018.  This position may include shifts during evenings and weekends.  

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan and supervise tasks such as fundraising activities and workshops
• Assist office duties such as scanning, preparing brochures and materials
• Assist the board of directors with assigned duties
• Help seek sponsorship and promoting awareness of GVAD
• Write publication and doing public relations for GVAD
• Update membership list and maintain records
• Organize the 40th Annual Cornfest

 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Computer skills including MS office and database skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision
• Experience in event planning or organization is an asset
• Ability to do multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrated positive attitude
• Knowledge of American Sign Language an asset
• Knowledge of Deaf Sports/Culture an asset
• Knowledge of working with volunteers an asset
• Between the ages of 15 and 30
• Registered as a full-time student and will return to school full time in Fall 2018
