Are you interested to be a speech reading instructor?
If you have taken speechreading classes, have experience with audiology/speech pathology or Deaf education, you might be well qualified to take this 5-day Speechreading Instructor training to teach Let’s Talk. An instructor needs:
• A good understanding of hearing loss.
• To have accepted their own hearing loss and resolved their own emotional issues before undergoing training – “help yourself before helping others”.
• Teaching skills that also include lesson preparation.
• Training: to teach classes in speechreading and coping strategies; to determine the individual needs of the students; to lead discussions addressing the issues facing people with hearing loss.
• Empathy towards adults with hearing loss.
This program was developed by experienced hard of hearing speechreading instructors throughout Canada through the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association (CHHA). There are many demands by the growing population of hard of hearing adults and seniors for program to learn more about hearing loss and how to cope with it.
