ASL Interpreted performance: Children of God

Children of God is a new musical written and directed by Corey Payette.

On May 21, at 2pm Urban Ink and The Cultch will be presenting an ASL Interpreted Performance.

In this powerful musical, the children of an Oji-Cree family are sent to a residential school in Northern Ontario. This is a story of redemption: for a mother who was never let past the school’s gate, and her kids, who never knew she came. Children of God offers a thrilling blend of ancient traditions and contemporary realities, celebrating resilience and the power of the Indigenous cultural spirit.

Transcript: A musical performance called “Children of God” hosted by Urban Ink Productions. The performance is influenced by indigenous spirituality. This is a story about a family whose children were taken away and sent to a residential school. Their mother tries to retrieve her children but were not able to get through the school’s gate. It is an emotional journey about the challenges she’s having. Meanwhile, her children had no idea where their mother is. It’s important to understand that the story includes sexual contexts and haze. The show includes emotional support volunteers in case if you feel overwhelmed or traumatized, the support will be available for you.
