The Deaf Crows Collective from Regina, Saskatchewan are in the middle of a huge fundraising campaign to send Deaf youth to Edmonton to perform their play, Deaf Crows, at the SoundOff Festival in Edmonton in mid February 2017. Please consider this as part of your Christmas giving spirit!
Since Saskatchewan closed their provincial school for deaf, many deaf teens in Saskatchewan, Canada have been deprived of language and the opportunity to express their own feelings about their experiences growing up. They are just learning sign language, trying to shed years of oppression and to find a new path for themselves. Please support them in sharing their experiences with hearing people. Deaf Crows played to two soldout audiences in Regina, Saskatchewan in June 2016. Hearing people laughed and cried and perhaps understood for the first time what it is like to be deaf in the hearing world. Deaf Crows also explores the impact of the closure of the school for the deaf on the Deaf community in Saskatchewan.
Please donate to: https://www.gofundme.com/deafcrows This could be the beginning of a worldwide arts based movement to share with the hearing world as to what happens when the government decides to close a deaf school!
