Classroom Assistant at Vancouver Community College
Job Description
We are currently looking for a classroom assistant to assist a student with Hard of Hearing and low vision in a classroom setting. The classroom assistant will work closely with the student and act as a support for the student by assisting in bridging communication between faculty, staff, and the student. Ultimately, the goal is to enhance the student’s understanding of the classroom instructions and materials.
Job Qualifications
? Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL)
? Experience working with the Deaf & Hard of Hearing Community
? Experience working with people with disabilities
? Experience working in an educational environment preferred
? Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills
? Demonstrate good communication skills (both written and oral)
? Ability to communicate in Mandarin and written Chinese, an asset
? Possess a first aid certificate
? Health care assistant related training, an asset
Work Conditions & Hours
? Setting: Post-secondary classroom
? Start Date: Immediately
? Hours: 9am-3:30pm (Monday to Thursday); with 1 hour unpaid lunch break
? Duration of position: immediately, with possibility of extension
