VCC Deaf Interpreter – Job Posting

Vancouver Community College is looking to hire on-call Deaf Interpreters. Those looking to apply should meet the following qualifications:

· Completion of Grade 12;
· Membership with WAVLI and AVLIC;

Plus one of the two options below

· Graduation from an AVLIC-recognized Interpreter Education Program (IEP)

OR

· A minimum of one years’ experience with the following:
o A minimum of 40 documented hours of work as a Deaf Interpreter within the last 4 years; and
o A minimum of 20 documented hours of professional development specific to Deaf Interpreting within the last 4 years; and
o A minimum of 20 documented hours of professional development specific to the process of interpreting within the last 4 years; and
o A minimum of 20 documented hours of professional development specific to ethics within the last 4 years
o Ability to adapt to changing situations is essential; and
o Possess strong time management and organizational skills and be able to work independently under tight timelines; and
o Ability to quickly establish effective working relationships with students and with other staff members in the educational team and with other members of the college community.
