Max Fomitchev performs at world premiere of See What I’m Saying www.seewhatimsayingmovie.com a feature documentary directed by Hilari Scarl about deaf entertainers. Max is originally from Russia and now lives in Vancouver. He wowed the crowds at the red carpet Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. Max has a great cameo in the documentary and will be featured as a solo performer in the DVD extras.

Have you checked out information about the Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) yet? You can find out more about RDSP’s at your local bank, but here is a great ASL video explaining about RDSP’s provided by Desjardins Financial Security.

Canada is the first country in the world to have a Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP). The RDSP will present families with a way to provide for the future financial security of their loved ones with disabilities. An estimated 500,000 people across Canada will benefit from this initiative, and future impacts of the RDSP go well beyond a simple planning tool.
To be eligible for the Registered Disability Savings Plan, you must:
1) Make sure you or your relative qualify for the Disability Tax Credit;
2) Be a Canadian Resident and have a valid Social Insurance Number;
3) Be under 60 years of age;
4) If your child is under age 18, make sure you sign up for the Canada Child Tax Benefit;
5) File a tax return for two years prior (to receive the Grant and Bond)

Canadian Deaf Curling Championships BEGINS!
Canada is coming to Richmond on this Sunday, March 28 and staying for a week!
Canadian Deaf Curling Championships will open with an opening ceremony on Sunday, March 28 and will end on Saturday, April 3rd with a banquet.
The daily admission for each day is $10, which will grant you unlimited access to the curling club and watch 8 or 9 games each day!
Our wine and cheese reception will be open to the public and the costs are:
With daily game admission: $15 (+$10 daily admission = $25)/person
Without daily game admission: $20/person

The Four Agreements – A Deaf-Friendly Book Interpretation
Due to POPULAR DEMAND, and a list of people on a waitlist, we are offering “The Four Agreements: A Deaf-Friendly Book Interpretation” as a LAST CHANCE for those on the Lower Mainland, back in Abbotsford (most people on the waitlist reside in the Fraser Valley).
What? Workshop in ASL: The Four Agreements are 4 simple rules you can follow for life, and make your life so much easier with less heartache, less hurt, acceptance and personal freedom. If you keep these 4 agreements or guidelines in your head always, you will feel so much better. Your relationships with people will be easier because things will be a bit more clearer.
In the workshop, using these 4 agreements Jodi and Lisa have examples that are used to illustrate how important or how each of them has worked and applied in our life and how they can apply to your life in different ways!

Canadian Museum for Human Rights Exhibit: March 19th -21st
Who?
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) has something truly unique and engaging at
the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic games. Once built, the CMHR will be a beacon for
Canadians and for people around the world to explore human rights and to promote dialogue,
understanding, and respect. The Museum will welcome people of all ages, genders, abilities, cultures, orientation, and beliefs; inviting us all to help combat prejudice, intolerance, and discrimination.
Why?
Before the Museum opens in 2012, we want to promote dialogue and we will do so at the Museum’s unique display located in a feature exhibit space in the CentrePlace Manitoba pavilion.
Where?
LiveCity Downtown – Corner of West Georgia Street and Beatty Street. The public entrance is on West Georgia Street. The site is only moments away from BC Place Stadium and Canada Hockey Place. The site is adjacent to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre complex – the home of the Four Host First Nations pavilion during the Olympic Games.

LAST MINUTE BREAKING NEWS – Deaflympics 2015 Announcement

WHAT: 2015 Deaflympics Official Announcement
WHEN: Friday, March 19th, 2010 @ 2:00 pm (please try to arrive prior to 2pm)
WHERE: BC Sports Hall of Fame (enter via Beatty and Robson streets)
ACCESS: ASL and Deaf Interpreters provided, also wheelchair accessible
DRESS CODE: Business Casual (no ties required)
The event will be held at the BC Sports Hall of Fame, the entrance for the event is on Beatty Street in between Robson and Georgia Street.
The Hall of Fame is in BC Place Stadium through Gate A. There is a giant sign there that mentions the BC Sports Hall of Fame and we will try to have someone out to guide people.
(We would like to also ask if all former Deaflympics athletes whom have won medals at the Deaflympics to bring the medals to showcase.)
In terms of accessibility for transportation, it is only 2 blocks away from the Stadium Skytrain station and we recommend taking transit. There is no parking on site, but there are a few parking lots located within walking distance from the venue. The venue is also full accessible for those requiring wheelchair access.
We would like everyone to aim to be at the venue between 1:30- 2:00 as the announcement event will commence right at 2pm, then followed by a reception at 2:45 – 4:00. We will have ASL and Deaf Interpreters available for the announcement portion and the reception and those requiring to be placed at the front of the room, just inform us as you walk in and we will definitely accommodate your request.
We would also like to mention that you are more than welcome to invite guests to attend as well, as we would love to keep this event open for those interested in attending the announcement.
Alternatively, we will be hosting a Town Hall Meeting on March 25th,2010 at Douglas College for a more in depth discussion on the 2015 Deaflympics.
