GREATER VANCOUVER ASSOCIATION OF THE DEAF
 POTENTIAL JOB POSTINGS
 Summer 2010 (beginning May 10, 2010)

 Greater Vancouver Association of the Deaf (GVAD) has applied for federal funding to cover three (3) employment positions at its office this summer beginning on May 10, 2010.  The number of weeks is expected to be 10 to 16 pending approval by Canada Summer Jobs 2010.

 If you are interested in working for GVAD in any of the three (3) employment positions this coming summer, please note the following:

 Students attending community colleges or universities must meet the eligibility requirements:

Between 15 and 30 years of age on his/her first day of work.

• are currently registered full time at a community college or university this academic year (2009 – 10) and intend to return to school full time in the next academic year (2010 – 11).
• be Canadian citizens or permanent residents or persons who have refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
• Be legally entitled to work in Canada under provincial legislation and regulations.
• Cannot work at another full time job (defined as 30 hours or more per week) at the same time as at GVAD.    

 Keep in mind that these three positions are subject to funding.

 1)      Office Coordinator:

 JOB OVERVIEW

To assist the Office Administrator in management and do fund raising and project research

 QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of Deaf Culture an asset
• Knowledge of American Sign Language or willingness to learn ASL a definite asset
• Be able to meet deadlines
• Work as a team player
• Be able to work with little supervision

 JOB DESCRIPTION

• Do fund raising tasks
• Research potential projects
• Create long term projects
• Write applications for grants from foundations
• Membership drive
• Public relations
• Supervise other staff members
• Event and workshop planning

 Hours per week – 30 hours
Salary – to be given at the time of interview

 2)      Office Support worker:

 JOB OVERVIEW

General administrative office duties

 QUALIFICATIONS

• Be able to do office work as required
• Be able to meet deadlines
• Knowledge of American Sign Language or willingness to learn ASL a definite asset
• Knowledge of Deaf Culture an asset
• Work as a team player
• A valid BC Drivers License an asset
• An automobile and have automobile insurance an asset

 JOB DESCRIPTION

• Assist in fundraising
• Assist the Office Coordinator as needed
• Be involved with the Annual Corn Party
• Check e mail daily
• Do computer/clerical work as directed
• Maintain records
• Organize files

 3) Information Officer:

 JOB OVERVIEW:

An information officer manages and develops the procurement, supply and distribution of information for Greater Vancouver Association of the Deaf or members in support of their needs or objectives. Services may be provided internally and/or externally and deal with electronic information, especially online databases and internet resources, as well as traditional library materials.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Be able to meet deadlines
• Knowledge of American Sign Language or willingness to learn ASL a definite asset
• Knowledge of Deaf Culture an asset
• It is required for the officer to have a laptop or computer at home
• Must be proficient using MS Office, Dreamweaver, Ipswitch, and WordPress

 JOB DESCRIPTION:

Typical work activities include:

• identifying, selecting, ordering, managing and disseminating both hard copy and electronic resources for the organization’s current and anticipated information needs
• updating and maintaining websites – www.gvad.com and www.deafbc.ca
• answering enquiries from an immediate client group, and others
• analyzing information with a view to repackaging it for easy use by the user
• conducting online searching and information retrieval in order both to answer queries and to provide a more proactive dissemination service
• developing internal information resources and networks (knowledge management), via intranet sites
• publicizing and marketing the service, internally and externally
• providing training and advice on the use of electronic information services
• creation of surveys and providing a summary/analysis of the results

Hours per week – 30 hours
