Obituary for John (Johnny) Whalen (1933-2011)

John (Johnny) Whalen (1933-2011)

Passed away suddenly at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital
on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 with his family by his side.
(John Whalen, son of the late Henry J. Whalen & Mary E. LaPierre)

Beloved husband of Gloria. Loving father of Henry Whalen and
Georgia Whalen (Wojciech Kaczynski). Forever remembered by his
grandchildren, Jeron Whalen and Pawel Husar.

Survived by his brothers-in-law; Orville Jarvis, Lionel Jarvis
(Lynda), Weldon (Ed) Jarvis (Lori Druckemiller) and sister-in-law,
Sandra Jarvis.

Predeceased by his brother-in-law, Aubrey Jarvis and sister-in-law,
Rosina Bayliss. Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the McKersie-Kocher

The BC-VRS Committee would like to announce that we are hosting a Town Hall on VRS and IP-Relay issues.

We will share Committee, Telus-Sorenson VRS Trial, and IP-Relay Updates and Information.

WIDHH Board Nominations

This is a call for nominations for the Western Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (WIDHH) Board of Directors.

Nominations are currently being sought for up to 8 elected positions on the Board of Directors. The WIDHH Board of Directors is made up of not less than five (5) but not more than fourteen (14) elected Directors.

Any Member in Good Standing with energy and a vision for serving persons who are Deaf, Deafblind, Deafened or Hard of Hearing is encouraged to stand for election.  We invite WIDHH Members to nominate individuals to serve on the Board of Directors. The deadline to receive nominations is February 28th, 2011 at 5:00pm.

All terms are two years in length, and all candidates will be interviewed by the Nominating Committee regarding their eligibility against the requirements listed below.

  1. All nominations must be in writing (Nomination form enclosed).
  2. All persons nominated for the Board of Directors must be a Member in Good standing of WIDHH.
  3. All written nominations must be signed by the nominee (the person being nominated) and signed by two (2) other Members in Good Standing.
  4. All nomination forms must contain a brief biographical description of the nominee.
  5. All nomination forms must be addressed to:

Thomas Alexander Forsyth

Thomas Alexander Forsyth, born February 7, 1941 in Vancouver, BC. Passed away suddenly on January 1, 2011 in Burnaby Hospital after a stroke. “SKIP” was very active in the Deaf community for many of his younger years and with the Deaf bowling leaque. Skip enjoyed travelling, skeet shooting and eating turkey dinners. Predeceased by his mother Joan Forsyth, father Thomas Forsyth, cousin Sandra Duck, Uncle Alex Forsyth, and Aunt Peg Thompson. Skip is survived by his cousin Dale Seaman and many second cousins. Skip will be buried beside his beloved mother at Forest Lawn in Burnaby. A Memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church of the Deaf at 3022 E. 49 Avenue in Vancouver on January 20, 2011 at 11 am.
