Kickstart Disability Arts and Culture
Kickstart Disability Arts and Culture is a non-profit organization in Vancouver. For more than ten years, we have presented artists with various disabilities working in music, theatre and visual art.
Our most well-known event is the Kickstart Festival, but recently we have been organizing a new event. It’s called the Wide Angle Media (WAM) Festival and it will feature films from all over the world.
Kickstart received several submissions from Deaf filmmakers for our WAM Festival.
This is your invitation to see some interesting short films from Deaf UK filmmakers. These films range from funny (“Deaf Mugger” or “Hands Solo”, about a Deaf porn star) to thought-provoking (“The End”, a sci-fi mockumentary about the last Deaf person on Earth). Other titles are “All Day” and “My Song”.
The Festival runs from March 22-25, 2012 at the Roundhouse Community Centre.
Most films are captioned and sign language interpretation will be provided at all screenings.

Tickets for each festival program, which include several short films, range from $7 to $9, with a one-time $2 membership.

BCDSF is looking for candidates to be part of the Mission Staff (two positions) in preparation and support of BC Athletes attending the Canada Deaf Games in Edmonton, Alberta, May 12th – 19th.
Should you be interested, please submit a resume with descriptions of your qualifications by email (bcdeafsports@telus.net) or know of anyone with the qualifications to handle the duties please share this recruitment announcement with them.
Expected Duties of Mission Staff
Ø Be involved in the arrangement of transportation to and from Edmonton, Alberta
Ø Reserve and arrange roommates at the Athlete Village
Ø Collect signed Code of Conducts (Athletes, Managers, Coaches, and Chaperones)
Ø Be involved in ordering and distribution of Golf shirts
Ø Obtain current address, emergency contacts; medical/allergies history
Ø Assign Chaperones to Athletes under the age of 19 years
Ø Prepare a final list of Team BC and forward to CDG by March 31 with support of the BCDSF office
Ø Ensure that Team BC follows the Rules and conducts themselves appropriately
Ø Submit a final written report to BCDSF no later than 30 days after the CDG
Ø Provide a written article for BCDSF’s newsletter.
Candidates interested in the above position shall have the ability to make excellent decisions independently and within the Mission Staff team and be able to communicate in ASL. The ability to get the job done within a short time frame and able to work under pressure, if necessary, are desired.

Medical Interpreting Services is excited to announce new 2 new ways to contact Medical Interpreting Services.
MIS has TTY, videophone, fax, email, and voice calls. Now we have two cell phones for text messages only.
For a medical interpreter, you can text your request for scheduled appointments 24/7. We will respond back between 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM from Monday to Friday. Text number is 778.995.7391 Please give us your name, doctor’s name, medical address, date, and phone number when you text for your doctor’s appointment. The dispatcher will text you back to confirm.
Emergency call, you need an MIS interpreter to go to emergency. Now you can text 778.990.7391 24/7 to request a MIS interpreter to go to emergencies (hospital). An interpreter will be dispatched immediately.
Please tell or text the dispatcher your name and name of the hospital and we will give an interpreter the name and the location.
We will hand out the new MIS emergency cards soon.

As awarded by Deaf Disc Golf Association in 2009, Washington Deaf Disc Golf Association is proud to host the 2012 National Deaf Disc Golf Championship on July 11-14, 2012. During the week, top Deaf disc golf professional and amateur competitors, family members, friends and media converge on the cities of Seattle and SeaTac, Washington for this major disc golf tournament. WA12, the designated tournament name, will be played at the 2 courses: Lakewood King County Park in Seattle and SeaTac Disc Golf Course in SeaTac.
We are looking for local and disc golf related partners for this event to show community and industry support. With this partnership we expect to drive the masses to your products or services. We have several options for sponsorship possibilities; merchandise or coupons for player packages, ad space on the course tee signs or in the tournament program, or food and beverages for competitors and spectators. We expect hundreds to join us that day and it would be a great way to get exposure for your product and service.

Abilities Expo 2012
ConnecTra’s fifth multi?agency resource fair will bring people with disabilities face to face with Metro Vancouver companies and service providers.
Join us at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, April 10 at the Roundhouse Community Centre (across from the accessible Yaletown?Roundhouse SkyTrain station) for an afternoon of information sharing and entertainment.
Last year’s Abilities Expo was attended by more than 200 people with disabilities, and this year’s promises to be even bigger.
The main stage will feature presentations on employment opportunities, health and wellness, advocacy, assistive technology and live music, while approx. 30 organizations will host displays of the products and services they provide for the community.
The event offers something for everyone, and is not to be missed.
