As awarded by Deaf Disc Golf Association in 2009, Washington Deaf Disc Golf Association is proud to host the 2012 National Deaf Disc Golf Championship on July 11-14, 2012. During the week, top Deaf disc golf professional and amateur competitors, family members, friends and media converge on the cities of Seattle and SeaTac, Washington for this major disc golf tournament. WA12, the designated tournament name, will be played at the 2 courses: Lakewood King County Park in Seattle and SeaTac Disc Golf Course in SeaTac.
We are looking for local and disc golf related partners for this event to show community and industry support. With this partnership we expect to drive the masses to your products or services. We have several options for sponsorship possibilities; merchandise or coupons for player packages, ad space on the course tee signs or in the tournament program, or food and beverages for competitors and spectators. We expect hundreds to join us that day and it would be a great way to get exposure for your product and service.
This is a golden opportunity to lend support to Disc Golf in the Pacific Northwest and to join other distinguished sponsors such as Washington Deaf Disc Golf Association, Deaf Disc Golf Association, Chainbangerz Disc Golf Shop, Keen Inc., and Washington State Deaf Association of the Deaf on the Green.

Hole Tier – $50

ConnecTra’s fifth multi?agency resource fair will bring people with disabilities face to face with Metro Vancouver companies and service providers.
Join us at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, April 10 at the Roundhouse Community Centre (across from the accessible Yaletown?Roundhouse SkyTrain station) for an afternoon of information sharing and entertainment.
Last year’s Abilities Expo was attended by more than 200 people with disabilities, and this year’s promises to be even bigger.
The main stage will feature presentations on employment opportunities, health and wellness, advocacy, assistive technology and live music, while approx. 30 organizations will host displays of the products and services they provide for the community.
The event offers something for everyone, and is not to be missed.

A person calling himself Leonard Conelly is trying to scam the Deaf community. He sends emails in which he claims to be fundraising for “Canadian Association of the Deaf People (CAD)”.
-CAD has no lottery or “jackpot”.
-CAD Does NOT ask people to wire money!
-CAD does not use Western Union.
This man is a FRAUD. He is NOT fundraising for our organization. He is a THIEF and we have reported him to the RCMP for prosecution.
Do NOT respond to any contact from this person. We repeat, he is a THIEF who is fraudulently and illegally using the CAD’s good name to STEAL YOUR MONEY!
We request that donations to the Canadian Association of the Deaf be either mailed as a cheque or money order payable to the CAD and sent directly to our office, or you may use our secure on-line donation option.
Our highest priority is to keep your personal information and payment information secure.

OTTAWA-GATINEAU, February 16, 2012 — Today, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) announced a three-month trial that will allow 911 call centres to communicate with pre-registered participants with hearing and speech impairments by text message.
“This text messaging trial is one of several initiatives that the CRTC is exploring to improve the accessibility of communications services for the hearing and speech impaired,” said Leonard Katz, the CRTC’s Acting Chairman and Vice-Chairman of Telecommunications. “This trial will give us the technical and operational information we need before making a final decision on whether to expand the program nationwide.”
The trial will involve participants in Vancouver, Toronto, Peel Region and Montreal, and is expected to begin shortly. During the trial, pre-registered participants will make test 911 calls. The 911 call centres, participating in the trial, will be notified at the start of the test calls that the caller has registered for the trial and will thus respond by text message. Information from this trial will be used to prepare a report regarding the feasibility of rolling out such a program on a national basis.

The BC School for the Deaf is hosting a workshop by Debra Russell on February 24, 2012 9:00 – 12:00 at the Michael J. Fox Theatre in Burnaby, BC. The topic is “Educational Interpreting – Stuck Between a Rock and a Hard Place”. Debra will present her research on Canadian Interpreters in K-12 settings.
