Important Message from Sorenson

An Important Message from Sorenson Communications

Deaf videophone users in Canada, who have enjoyed Sorenson Video Relay Service (SVRS) in conjunction with the TELUS trial for the past 18 months, are no longer are able to place VRS calls and have to place deaf-to-deaf calls using IP addresses. In addition, VRS support and customer service are not available. During the trial period, Sorenson Communications was pleased to provide Canadian interpreters for the program and to serve the communication needs of deaf Canadians.

Canadians with Sorenson videophones can still place point-to-point videophone calls by dialing the call recipient’s videophone IP address. You can also share your IP address with those who call you. If at any time during the calling process the Videophone Login screen appears, simply select the Cancel button and continue.

For more information on how to find your IP address, watch our ASL video at www.svrs.com/canada.

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) will consider many factors before making a decision in 2012 on whether nationwide VRS is available in Canada. Despite the overwhelming success of the TELUS trial, there is no guarantee the CRTC will recommend, or the government support, unrestricted VRS on a national basis. For this reason, it is very important that you make your desires known to the CRTC and government authorities.

Sorenson looks forward to again serving the communication needs of deaf Canadians in the future. For more information on this and to learn how you can place and receive videophone calls using IP addresses, visit www.svrs.com/canada.
