Vancouver Coastal Health Mental Health and Addictions Services is committed to collaborating with consumers and families to build on strengths, talents and interests in order to foster a community of hope, growth and self- determination.
Job Summary:
Working within the context of a client centered care approach and the vision/values of the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, the Community Mental Health Worker 2 (Adult) provides client care to the seriously mentally ill adult population and who are at risk due to a combination of psychiatric symptoms, complex medical/social factors or significant caregiver stress. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, educational resources and other health care professionals/providers to achieve excellence in health services and education.
Celebrate Accessibility at the Vancouver Aquarium
The Vancouver Aquarium will be celebrating accessibility on December 1. We will have all of our usual accessible services offered and the following additions:
• American Sign Language interpreters will be at all of our marine mammal and dive shows, including one of our holiday favourites, Scuba Claus.
• The Wet Lab will be open every hour so guests can experience our aquatic world through touch
• Volunteers will be available upon request to assist visitors who are blind or have low vision for a more descriptive tour
• Extra volunteers will be onsite to interact with guests and showcase a variety of props in the galleries

Deafhood course at Douglas College
Looking for a unique study experience?
Study alongside students in the Program of Sign Language Interpretation at Douglas College and develop a deeper understanding of Deaf culture.
You will learn definitions and theories of culture, studying the history of Deaf people around the world. Implications for current services and education for deaf people will also be examined.

A community forum to advance a shared agenda

Formal program: 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM (lunch provided)
GOALS:
* Hear from the BC Ombudsperson about her report and the Seniors’ Action Plan
* Discuss how to ensure that key recommendation from the Ombudsperson’s report are implemented
* Identify important issues that go beyond the scope of the Ombudsperson’s report (such as integrated care, access to housing and transportation, ensuring seniors and the community have a central voice in how policies and services are created and delivered…and more)
* Strategize about how to build support for these shared priorities and concerns
SPEAKERS:
BC Ombudsperson Kim Carter will join us to give an update on her work and recommendations. Additional speakers from the seniors community to be announced.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
* Seniors involved in community services or advocacy
* Service providers, community organizations, people or groups who work directly with seniors
* Organizations representing service providers or seniors care workers.
* Advocates, researchers and others who would find it valuable to participate.

Remember Mini-Timberfest that was hosted in Williams Lake, BC in 2006, 2008, and 2010. It’s back!

We reserved the whole McLeese Lake Resort privately for our event from Wednesday August 7 – 12, 2013. You are responsible to contact the campsite owner and reserve the site yourself. Please let them know that you are with Deaf Timberfest group.
