National Educational Association of Disabled Students Employment Forum- Kelowna
The National Educational Association of Disabled Students is hosting our 27th employment forum in Kelowna for the first time at the Ramada Hotel and Conference Center.
The purpose of the workshop is to offer practical job search strategies that can help post-secondary students and recent graduates with disabilities pursue their career goals. This event also connects employers, post-secondary students / recent graduates with disabilities and service providers. It is an interactive day with guest speakers, exhibitors and networking.
Registration is free! Breakfast and lunch is included.

Special General Meeting

BCDSF will have a special General Meeting on Wednesday January 9th, 2013 about resolutions for the endowment fund set up in partnership with Vancouver Foundation. See attached PDF flyer.
Non-members are welcome but only members can vote during the meeting, so please make sure to renew or join membership before the meeting.
Message to Members: It is $5 discount if you renew your membership before December 31st. If you are also a member of NDOC, GVDCC, OVAD, WCDGC and GVAD, then you are qualified another $5.00 discount.

L2L Deaf Cross Country Skiing instruction
For more than ten years, the Nordic Racers Ski Club has been offering a Learn to Loppet program to help skiers of all levels improve their ski skills. For the ?rst time ever, we are expanding the program to include skiers who are deaf and hard of hearing by offering a Deaf Learn to Loppet program with a registered sign language interpreter. Whether you want to cross country ski just for fun or want to compete at the Dea?ympics, our Deaf Learn to Loppet program can help you reach your cross country ski goals! During the 2013 ski season, the Deaf Learn to Loppet program will run on Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm until 8:30pm starting February 6th. Each 2-hour on-snow session will be led by a certi?ed coach who will work with a registered sign language interpreter to ensure you receive direct instructions and feedback. After each ski, you’ll be able to take part in our club’s Wednesday night free hot chocolate event at the Hollyburn lodge – the perfect way to end an evening of skiing at Cypress Mountain! A minimum of 4 skiers who are deaf or hard of hearing are needed to have this program start so please register early!
Where: Cypress Mountain Nordic Area, West Vancouver
Date and Time: Wednesdays from 6:30pm to 8:30pm from February 6th to March 6th, 2013.
Cost: $110 per person.
Ski equipment and trail passes are not included.

Future to transform 911 services, CRTC says
Text messages, videos and even tweets are some of the new technologies that could be used to contact 911 that the federal broadcast regulator may have to consider as it looks at ways to improve the emergency service.
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission is asking Canadians, especially emergency responders, for ideas on how to improve 911 service in light of changing technology.

Vancouver Coastal Health Mental Health and Addictions Services is committed to collaborating with consumers and families to build on strengths, talents and interests in order to foster a community of hope, growth and self- determination.
Job Summary:
Working within the context of a client centered care approach and the vision/values of the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, the Community Mental Health Worker 2 (Adult) provides client care to the seriously mentally ill adult population and who are at risk due to a combination of psychiatric symptoms, complex medical/social factors or significant caregiver stress. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, educational resources and other health care professionals/providers to achieve excellence in health services and education.
Celebrate Accessibility at the Vancouver Aquarium
The Vancouver Aquarium will be celebrating accessibility on December 1. We will have all of our usual accessible services offered and the following additions:
• American Sign Language interpreters will be at all of our marine mammal and dive shows, including one of our holiday favourites, Scuba Claus.
• The Wet Lab will be open every hour so guests can experience our aquatic world through touch
• Volunteers will be available upon request to assist visitors who are blind or have low vision for a more descriptive tour
• Extra volunteers will be onsite to interact with guests and showcase a variety of props in the galleries
