Feature Story – Connecting deaf, hard of hearing and deafblind youth

Eighty young people from across B.C. joined together October 22, 23, and 24 at ROOTS for YOU-TH, the first ever provincial conference for deaf, hard of hearing and deafblind youth in B.C.
The three-day retreat was a chance for the youth to connect with each other, meet new friends and enjoy fun, interactive games nights.
The youth, between the ages of 13 and 23, gathered in Burnaby for daytime workshops on building self- advocacy skills, health, education and sexual awareness. The workshops were designed to promote self- confidence, self-development, understanding rights and building healthy relationships with others.
In the evenings, the youth enjoyed fun, team-building activities, including a group BBQ and an indoor rock-climbing excursion at Vertical Reality. On the last evening, the teens ventured out to explore “Fright Night” at the PNE.
