Basement suite available in Abbotsford

0

We have a basement suite coming up for rent and I’d like to advertise it to the deaf community but don’t know hardly any deaf people! My daughter is 9 and learning ASL. Our house is also not soundproof so it would suit someone who is hard of hearing or deaf. Would love to send my ad to you somehow if you think of someone who is interested in moving to Abbotsford. Lovely place, good family.

Available to view anytime.

1 bedroom above-ground suite.

Large windows with lots of light.

Renovated flooring, paint, and baseboards.

Bright, spacious kitchen with countertop stove and newer fridge.

Comfortable dining area off of kitchen.

Large living room with wood fireplace.

Separate entrance, lots of parking on street.

Quiet residential neighbourhood, nearby downtown and all amenities.

On bus routes to Abby, Mission, Huntingdon/border.

$750 per month; all utilities included. Free wifi.

Cat permitted, no dogs allowed. Laundry on site if you wish to use it.

No smoking/drugs, no parties.

Family upstairs has loud, young children. Just so you know in advance and are able to live with it!

Would suit a student, busy working person, etc.

Event: Beluga Whales, Microplastics and an Inuit community | Ocean Matters February Lecture

Event: Beluga Whales, Microplastics and an Inuit community | Ocean Matters February Lecture

ASL INTERPRETERS ARE PROVIDED!

Date: 27-Feb-2018
Time: 7pm (doors 6.30pm)
Location: The Vancouver Aquarium
Description: The remote Inuit community, living in the artic hamlet of Tuktoyaktuk, are worried about how microplastic pollution in the ocean could harm their health and threaten their way of life. Microplastics are tiny plastic particles found throughout the ocean and are eaten by fish, birds and other marine animals. This is very troubling because we don’t know exactly how this plastic affects the health and behaviour of the these animals. Microplastic pollution poses a grave threat to the Inuit in Tuktoyaktuk as rely on fish and marine mammals to feed themselves, and as a vital part of their traditional culture. Rhiannon Moore, a researcher in the Ocean Wise Pollution team, will share her experience researching ocean microplastics in the artic, and show how we can stay optimistic while facing this emerging global conservation issue.

Price: Free, but register to guarantee your spot!

Survey on Open Captions in Movie Theaters

0

Majority of #deaf and #hardofhearing people prefer OPEN #captions directly on a screen in movie #theaters, but they are often forced to use cumbersome closed captioned devices against their will because some hearing folks are complaining how open captions are “distracting” to them.

So we are doing a survey on preferences for open vs closed captions that can be filled out by anyone regardless of hearing status. We even encourage more folks with normal hearing to fill out the survey so that we can show more comments directly from them instead of letting theaters making assumptions for them.

Please fill out the survey and pass it on as wide as possible. Thanks!

NOTE: Please respond to questions in the survey, not in comments in this post – otherwise they will be deleted.
