Great things are happening with D-PAN and we are excited to share some awesome news with you!
On Sunday, November 16th at 4pm Eastern Standard Time, D-PAN will be featured on CNN. The interview took place last week while D-PAN was visiting Atlanta Area School for the Deaf. I gave a presentation to the students about my experience as a deaf person venturing into the music business and how D-PAN was created. CNN interviewed me as well as the students at the school; it was a very rewarding experience. It was exciting to see students show off their dancing skills and be inspired to think about their futures.
Please spread the word to everyone you know about D-PAN being featured on CNN, and we will also be featured on different networks throughout CNN (Headline News and CNN.com)
This is an exciting adventure and we thank you for being part of it!
My name is Ricky Dagan-Skedd. I am working with a gentleman named Ian Skedd who is an artist making a piece for an exhibition at the Western Front Gallery in Vancouver.
Ian is very interested in sign language as a visual representation of sound. In his last piece, he worked with a sign singer (a woman from a Montreal deaf choir who has just moved to Vancouver.) Together they video-taped a french sign language interpretation of the song “Au Claire De La Lune.” This piece is currently being exhibited at the Charles H. Scott Gallery on Granville Island at Emily Carr.
In his new piece, Ian would like to film a whole choir and we are looking for people who might be interested in participating. We have 10 people so far and need 21. The film is scheduled to shoot February 14 – 17 at the Chan Center’s Recital Hall at UBC. Sign singers will get an honorarium of $100 per day of the shoot and they will be well-fed!
We are a little behind in casting for this piece. We are hoping to have all the singers by Nov. 15 or 16. So, if you wouldn’t mind passing along the message to anyone who might be interested and ask them to get back to us as soon as possible. As well, if you could suggest other organizations, places or people that might be good places to get spread the word, I would greatly appreciate having their contact info.
Below is the synopsis of the piece currently on exhibition at the Charles Scott Gallery and the synopsis of the piece to come for which we are currently casting, should anyone want more information.
