You are invited to join us at a Remembrance Tea on May 7th at Douglas College, Lower Cafeteria from 3:30pm to 6:30pm in honour of our dear friend, colleague and cherished Interpreter, Caroline Ashby.

Caroline spent much of her life giving and doing for others. Please join us in honoring Caro by sharing stories, remembering how she touched our lives and validating the many contributions she made to the community.

Coffee and tea will be provided, Please bring a potluck item.( Sweets and/or Savory finger food)

Last Chance To See Mood Disorders Workshop In Burnaby

The Well-Being Program will be providing Mood Disorders workshop in Burnaby, BC for the last time.

This workshop has circled the province of B.C. and each time it has been provided, there have been improvements made, and it is has been completely revamped from the first time it was provided in Fall 2009.

Come and see Eileen Edinger Marshall share the differences between Anxiety, Depression & Bi-polar mood disorders. She also has an interesting story to tell, and Eileen makes the workshop fun, with audience participants making guesses.

Learn:

What are the triggers – how mood disorders are caused?
What is the difference between Anxiety, Depression & Bi-Polar? (Did you know there are two types of Bi-polar?)
How does a support system help?

Money Skills Workshop In Abbotsford

WBP will provide much-needed workshops that deal with an important topic out in Abbotsford in early May.

Money Skills workshops will be provided to help people understand more about their money and how they use it. This workshop topic is normally a 4 week workshop series, but because of the distance, we are combining 4 sessions into 2 Saturdays instead.

Please mark your calendars, and RVSP with me at wbp.workshops@vch.ca to let me know you want to attend, because seating is LIMITED, only 15 people max.

What?: Money Skills – Financial Literacy Program Theme: Taking Control of Your Money/Feeling Better About Yourself is the theme.

Includes:
Budgeting: Learn HOW to control your money (Spending and Earning)
Banking: Option Choices that are right for you, reduce bank fees and save money
Credit: Grow and Stay on a good credit history and with debt control
Consumerism: BUY! BUY! BUY! Look and see spending choices influenced by advertising and how to be in charge of your own spending

BC Cultural Society of the Deaf AGM Postponed

BC Cultural Society of the Deaf’s planned AGM for Friday April 15 2011 is postponed to a later date, to be announced.

BCCSD decided to postpone the AGM when it was announced that Deaf Vagina Monologues was going to be playing Thurs & Friday.

We will be emailing to our members, our new BCCSD Bylaws for review a month before the AGM. Please email us to make sure your name is on the mailing list. bcculturalsocietyofthedeaf@gmail.com

We will be voting to approve the new BCCSD Bylaws at the AGM, this will allow us to apply for a Charitable number in the very near future!

The BC-VRS Committee would like to share the letter the Committee sent to the Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission in response to the March 1, 2011 Telus request in connection with the VRS trial.

We tried to sum up all of the perspectives in one letter, quite a challenge!
