Deaf Grad is open to all deaf students in B.C.  Whether they attend the B.C. School for the Deaf, a deaf program elsewhere or are mainstreamed in their local school districts, all are welcome and encouraged to attend.  Deaf Grad is a signing event but we also welcome oral deaf students who feel comfortable being part of a signing environment.  We want to celebrate all the Deaf Grads !

 Deaf Grad is an amazing community event where parents, Grandparents, extended family, educators, interpreters, Deaf Community and anyone who has been connected to the community – come out to support and honour the grads.

 The evening begins with a dinner, a time to honour the grads through speeches and concludes with a dance.  Grads can choose to wear their formal attire or dressy clothes – so there is lots of picture taking!  A big highlight is when some of the grads themselves stand up to make a speech.  In the past, families (grandparents, aunts, uncles etc.), and the Grads themselves have cherished this event.

 If you have a student completing high school this year – please send an email asapl – so they can be added to our list.  . If you are aware of any grad who may not be aware of this event please email the name or contact information of the individual(s) to the contact info below.

4:00 pm arrival and time for photo taking (awesome location for photos)

5:00 pm: buffet dinner is served, followed by an action-packed program & dancing

Location: Semiahmoo Fish & Game Club (1284  184th Street, Surrey)

Ticket Price:  $33.00

This is a non-alcohol ‘family/community’ event. 

 Ticket Sales: 

Venue size at the Semiahmoo Fish & Game Club means we can sell a maximum of 175 tickets.  Like last year, tickets are expected to be sold out quickly. 

 Tickets can be reserved by contacting Cecelia Klassen at:  klassjam@shaw.ca   Once you are on the reservation list, mailing instructions on where to mail your cheque will be given.  Deadline for receiving the cheques will be:  March 1, 2010.   

 All ticket proceeds go solely to purchasing the dinner, hall rental, DJ (for dancing), decorations, special surprises for the grads, etc.  Once a ticket is purchased, we will be unable to offer refunds (although a waiting list is anticipated so we can possibly resell your ticket).   No tickets can be sold at the door.  Unfortunately, we are unable to have any deaf youth attend without their parents or guardian.  Donations are greatly appreciated.

 If you would like more information on the event, or would like to volunteer or donate, please email the committee.  This is a non profit, private event set up entirely by volunteers who are parents of Deaf grads, parents of Past Deaf Grads and Deaf community volunteers.  We are thankful to the BC School for the Deaf for being supportive of this event.
