Hello everyone!!

I am a professional Deaf actor from Ontario. I had several experiences of signing in songs with a tour theatre group (Road Sign). I used to sign a song at the Deaf Olympic’s opening ceremony in 2005- in Melbourne, Australia. It was for a song called, “In West” by the Village group. I signed next to their famous singer, Sophia Monk. If you are interested in my acting work, please check my website

I had requested from the Olympic’s Opening Ceremony Committee to see if they would let me sign the Canadian National Anthem next to their singer for this Olympic in Vancouver. I used to sign American’s National Anthem at my Gallaudet University’s graduation and at sport’s games. I am not even an American!

I truly believe it is the time for the world to see music in visual sign language (ASL). I also had asked if I could sign some songs next to their singers as part of visual entertainment. I truly feel that the songs should be signed by an native Deaf ASL signer.

I had tried to ask music concerts’ people to let me sign next to the singers in Toronto. They had refused to let me do it. Even if I offered to volunteer! They are afraid of something that they do not understand. I grew up loving music. My both brothers are hard of hearing and deaf. We grew up with music. I know there are many deaf people who love music as well.

I don’t think I ever saw any songs with a signer in any Olympic in the history. I think Canada should be the first one to show a signer for Canadian National Anthem and other songs!

Let me know what I can do. Thanks.

One important note – there will be intrpretation ONLY at Opening and Closing Ceremonies. I have no idea if there will be captioning on any of the screens visible at the venues. Also – these seats are available for booking / purchase only by telephone / TTY as directed on the PDF document. They’re not available online.
