OPPORTUNITY FOR INDIVIDUALS with ASL

Providing Resources & Independence to Youth Development (PRIYD) is hiring Integration Support Workers (ISWs) to support special needs youth aged 10-18 living in Burnaby, New Westminster, Richmond, and Vancouver.

Working one-to-one or in small groups, ISWs aim to increase independence for youth and support families.

We currently have a need for male and female workers with knowledge of American Sign Language and related skills.

As an ISW, you’ll mentor boys and girls who have been diagnosed with a developmental or similar disability, including Autism, FASD and ADHD, and those that may have experienced family trauma.  You’ll be taking them into the community to build confidence and life-skills through activities such as exploring the city on public transit, buying and preparing food, playing sports and other activities which help develop a healthy lifestyle and positive relationships. This position provides excellent field experience for people interested in Grad Studies.

Required Experience:

  • Two years of coursework in Psychology, including classes in Developmental Psych or relatedareas.
  • One year experience working or volunteering with children ages10-18.
  • One year experience working or volunteering with individuals with special needs or behavioural challenges.
  • ASL preferred
Other Requirements:
  • Interest in working with challengingbehaviours.
  • Regular weekly commitment for a minimum of 12 months.
  • Saturday availability an asset.
  • Ability to pass criminal recordcheck.
  • A vehicle is not required for this position.
