With great anticipation, a grassroots collective of non-profits, businesses, farms and individuals invite you to join the illustrious Dr. Vandana Shiva for a speaking engagement in Vernon. This will be an outstanding evening of discussion about healthy food, people and communities, both locally and within the larger global context. A loss of biodiversity and community control over the food that is grown is of critical importance. How do food and food systems flow into all other areas of life and community? What are some of the key questions we should be asking when faced with choices around growing, accessing and eating food so that we are also doing our part to meet global challenges such as climate change, hunger and poverty?

From an Okanagan perspective, issues that are particularly relevant are water conservation and protecting agricultural land from the high pressure for development in this region. Climate change is also imperative to prepare for in terms of crop viability and adapting to altered weather patterns. The recently approved GMO Arctic Apple deserves special attention within the broader context of GMO’s and how they threaten organic food production and seed sovereignty.

There will be ample time for questions from the audience and a book signing to follow — bring a copy of one of Dr. Shiva’s several publications to be signed by her!

Overflow Tickets are $15 — available on Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/vandana-shiva-in-vernon-tickets-19677249182
